I agree to an extent. If Pacqiuao wants to fight welterweights then he can fight at welterweight, IMO.

if the welterweights want the biggest purse of their lives the they should fight pac at his weight.

well, it's cotto's choice. i much rather see mayweather-pac @147 since both of them are small welters anyway, both weighing around 148-150 during fights. cotto can practically fight as a superwelter already since he comes into fights weighing 160+.

easyway to reslove this. roach has already stated there is no problem at fighting at 147. his only concern is the weight put on in the 24 hours after the weigh in. he stated he will fight mosley/cotto at 147 if the weigh in is 1 hour before the fight. thats the fairest way to resolve this i think

I agree. The weight divisions today aren't indication enough of the fighter's size when fighters are weighing in dehydrated/starving and then get time to rehydrate back. A lot of things happen during that time. He could either fail or succeed to rehydrate back to his training/fighting weight. So now you have matches with guys weighing 10lbs more than the weight division they are fighting for.

It's hard to argue fairness in that regard, so you must understand Roach's insistence on negotiating catchweights because he's trying to protect his fighter from unnecessary disadvantages.

Good to see Cotto admits he can't do it. This shouldn't be a surprised, he was killing his self to make 140 four years ago, it should be impossible to go anywhere close to that now.

This leaves Pacquiao with the option to wait for Mayweather/Marquez to be over or take a tune up fight at 140 as he waits for November.

They can't change the entire system for one fight.

147, 140 or whatever, Pacquiao knocks him out.

As far as weight is concerned, Roach made it clear they're going 140 before they got in the ring with DLH.

pacman would have ALOT of trouble with cotto at 147. he even said he wanted to be on the safe side for his health. which is why he isnt jumping out of his seat to get a fight with cotto at 147. hopefully this fight happens though.

:good That's what we need in boxing - someone with status pioneering same day weigh-ins ........ FAIR!!!!!

Excellent Post ... The habit of starving\draining yourself to make weight the day before and ballooning up after, has gone on much too long. There is no one who can make a valid argument in favor of this practice. If a fighter has to drain\starve himself to make weight .... he's in the wrong weight class, PERIOD!

Also, :good to the one who stated that if Pac-Man wants to fight Welterweights then fight welterweights ... don't stipulate that they drain themselves down to NON-welterweight limits in order to fight.

They're not jumping the "seat" because they already said they're staying at 140 before they fought DLH. Based on styles Pacquiao takes him out, at 147 or 140 or 145 or whatever.

If they move for Cotto then they will have to for Mosley, Mayweather and so on. People will be all over him claiming he should move up for the rest since he moved for Cotto.
