And who was his trainer? The Great Mr. Santiago!!!!

Cotto trained for the weight moreso than training for Pac which showed after the 2nd round when the pop was gone from his punches.
In the article he is definitely implying that the weight affected him!!!

The weight loss is just an excuse in this case from those looking to discredit Manny, the Pacman took him apart so decisively. If they rematched today, I'm sure the fight would be a lot closer. But that night, it doesn't matter if Cotto weighed in at 145 or 147, he was never going to win, Pacquiao was just too good that night

All but the most ardent Pac loyalists can realize that Pac wouldn't have asked for the catchweight if it wasn't to Pac's benefit. Cotto was a company man and went along with it in exchange for substantial compensation.

Now that he is his own entity, he is more free to speak his mind and choose his opponents.

no where did he said he was drained you guys are misquoting him and changing what he meant in the translation all he said was that he didnt want to fight pac at 150 because those few pounds count and like in 2009 when he fought at 145 and those two extra pounds took a little from him... take a little is a lot different than saying i was weight drained

"Fue lo mismo que pasó en el 2009, que me hicieron bajar de 147 a 145, y ese peso extra te quita", resaltó.

No where in Cotto's quote does it say a little. he didn't say "... me quito un poco." or "te quita un poco."

he said "...el peso extra te quita." Te quita ... it takes ( from you ). It is another way to say to drain.

How would you say in Spanish, " it drained me"

    Me agoto?
    Me dreno?
Maybe some will use this but to be honest that is not common venacular, when speaking boxing with spanish speakers it common to say " Me quito"

Like " esa extra libras te quitan fuerzas."

Cotto didn't specify "que fue lo que le quito" ( what was take from him)

But we can assume it was what is taken away from a fighter who is drained.

He did this to Margarito because he didn't want to fight him in the first place. Cotto stated he didn't want to give Margarito a paycheck prior to the fight and was therefore demanding in his terms. I mean Margarito allegedly (I believe likely) beat him with plaster hands for 11 rounds I would screw with him too.

Before Cotto fought Floyd he stated he wouldn't drain himself again for Pac, so he's already stated he had to drain himself in that fight. This translation might hint towards him having to train to make weight though, instead of being drained.. Not completely sure, but whichever one it is he's saying he wasn't 100% in that fight before the first bell rang. Some say it's excuse making after the fact, others believe he couldn't speak his mind when signed under Arum.. Funny all this comes out immediately after he's a free agent.

Hope someone good fights Martinez soon. I'd love watching Cotto or Floyd take on Martinez. Would garner a ton of interest and buys.

He was still signed under Arum right? Could be part of the reason...

Everyone says this before a fight... Dawson said it too, but clearly he was drained.

Correction, this was more than a Month After the fight with Pacquiao.

Pacquiao vs Cotto fought on November 14th, 2009.

    This Interview was on......

    December 24, 2009

    Percy Crawford:

''Was coming down to 145 tougher than you thought it would be since you hadn't weighed 145 or less since 2006?''

    Miguel Cotto:

''I felt really good at that weight. It wasn't a problem for me''.

"I take nothing away from Manny. We both made a great fight...He is fast and stronger than we thought he would be...He is fast and stronger than we thought he would be,"

So easy enough, don't make the fight.

But why do you suppose Cotto's terms included 150lb CW with the 160 rehydration clause? Is he fine at the weight, or he decided to drain himself just to drain this one eyed bum a little more? What kind of a champ would do that to himself? You'd think he could destroy this sorry wreck without punishing his own body.
