In other words, Hatton looked great as long as he was fighting nobodies, looked like a messy wrestler as soon as stepped up. Ricky's not on Cotto's level, and u know it just like everybody else does.
I love Cotto; he is probably my favorite active fighter. That being said... Hatton is getting a little underrated these days... At Jr.Welter he was a top talent; a very good fighter. Was he a little over-rated? Sure, but he was VERY good at that weight. Cotto, while very good offensively at that weight, had very little punch resistance. Some people here remember that, but many seem to be forgetting how badly he took hard shots at Jr. Welter. I fear people's vision is being clouded by the fairly good chin Cotto has at Welter. Cotto is the better offensive fighter, but Cotto would get hit by Hatton who had a fairly hard punch at that weight. More importantly, Hatton was a pretty good finisher; it Cotto gets really hurt he may not make it out of the round... Once again, I like Cotto more; but he was a better Welter than Jr. Welter... I don't know, this would have been a close one. On another note, at Welter Cotto would have destroyed Hatton easily...
Well he beat Mosley... Was Mosley a little on the decline? Sure, but he was still a top talent and still better than Tszyu. Beyond Mosley Cotto has beated a ton of B+ fighters; fighters that were all pretty damn good and just a little off from being elite. Clottey, Judah, Malignaggi, Torres, Urkal, Corley, N'dou... All of those fighters are VERY quality wins. Once again, not elite; but they are all tough and were all close to being at the top level. Hatton doesn't have nearly as many great wins on his record... Sure he has Pendlton and Castillo; but both were clearly past their best at that time. Beyond that, he only has a couple of B+ fighters on his resume... But the best comparison is between how they did against the Pac man. Both were fighting him at their best weight and both had suffered one loss... So how did Cotto do against him? Well Cotto clearly won the first round and stayed very competitive (despite being knocked down) throughout the first half of the fight. Arguably Cotto gave Pacquiao the hardest fight he has had since Marquez. So how did Hatton do against him? Well despite Hatton's claim that he was "winning by a country mile", Hatton got beaten bad in the first round and knocked out bad in the second. Cotto CLEARLY did MUCH better. So if you want to argue who's legacy is better and how good they are on a pound for pound level I fear you have a bit of an uphill battle on your hands...
Cotto only had trouble taking shots when he outgrew the division and kept killing himself to make weight. How is it that you don't know that?
man get it straight damn! The only B+ fighter Hatton ever straight up beat was Malignaggi. Castillo, Phillips, Tackie were all beyond shot. KT was loooong past his best and Ricky had to have a corrupt ref to win that fight. Hatton should have lost to both Collazo and Lazcano. Maussa and Urango were decent wins. If Hatton wasn't English with the attending fan hysteria and had fought in the states with straight refs, he would have been a good titleholder. A scrappy tough guy who makes exciting fights. He's nowhere NEAR the level of a Miguel Cotto. Not even close. Personally I like Hatton, he's boys with MAB which means he's cool with me, but facts are facts, and trying to put him on a level with a guy like Cotto is just a joke. He doesn't belong there.
What a suprise. All Mayweather fans picking Hatton. Couldn't be something to do with the fact that Manny beat Cotto..... therefore giving Cotto any sort of credit indirectly praises Pacquiao. Hmmmmm
Okay, but how long had he fought at the Jr. Welter weight division while being too big for it? Allow me to elaborate... It seems like he started getting hurt the second he started fighting the better fighters in the Jr. Welter weight division... I am sure it IS true that he grew out of the weight class; however, my question is how long had he been a Welter fighting at Jr. Welter? If this is a dream match the top Jr. Welter weight Cotto Vs. the best Hatton was at that weight what version of Cotto is supposed to be fighting Hatton in this dream match? Is it the inexperienced Jr. Welter weight Cotto or the experienced, and more refined, but weight drained Cotto? I think you need to take another look at my post... You pretty much just restated what I had already said in the post you were replying to... Or are you being ironic or something? I would make some comment about you being illiterate or something along those lines; but my love for Nathan Fillion clearly compels me to embrace you as a brother. Though, that being said, it would be funny to refer to you as illiterate as Nathan Fillion is the founder of an organization called "Kids Need to Read"... Still, read the post a second time before you attempt to counter that post...
Cotto and by absolute frick'in massacre at any stage of Hatton's career :deal Hatton's 'prime' cited by so many of his fans was during his WBU reign of terror.....
