Roach has apparently said they'd fight if Cotto weighed 147.Not sure how much truth there is in that

 

I was a advocate of this when the BS catchweight was announced.

Freddie said he "wont allow" Cotto to come in above 145. But would they really pull Pacquiao out at the last minute with so much at stake? The rules of this fight are BS to me. Unlike the Floyd fight, Cotto is having to cut weight and put his title up. Does anyone know for sure if (in some ****ed up logic) Cotto might lose his strap on the scales if he comes in over 145?

I'm under the impression the WBO are following their daddy WBC inaugural Diamond Belt in stripping Cotto if he's over 145 on the scales. But in a high profile fight Cotto may get a chance to run it off say within a 2 hour window. Should be a moot point because Cotto will make 145, just hope he hasn't gone on the kangaroo atkins diet and overshot to a drained 143. btw this Diamond belt is something to behold fellas: 800 real diamonds with 150 rubies and sapphires with 18kt gold center plate. Probably a $100k+ handcrafted piece!!

I think cotto should come in at 147. **** Roach and his stupid stipulations.

 

The WBO wight limit is 147. They would be unable to strip Cotto of the title if he comes in at that weight.

However, as others have said, the contract states that the fight is at 146 and there will be financial implications if Cotto fails to make it.

 

So the fights at 146 now..?

my view is that the Contract and the Title are 2 seperate things. The WBO chose to sanction this as a Welterweight title fight so the limit is 147lbs. Now the contract is the minor details agreed by the boxers and they have both agreed to weigh in at under 145 or 146lbs whichever is correct. Now whatever they have agreed to weigh should have no effect on the title as for the title to be contested both gusy need to weigh within 147lbs and the WBO to sanction it and this has been met.

Now Cotto is in full right to weigh in at 147lbs and i said to Dan if i was Cotto i would weigh in at 147lbs as there is nothing stopping him weighing 147lbs and still contesting the title.

 

Who gives a **** about the WBO or the WBC for that matter? It's better for boxing, now that the agreements have been made, that the weigh in doesn't become a circus and all goes off as planned. As someone said above, Cotto has weighed 146 for his last two fights, so 145 won't make a difference.

 

Why are we so preoccupied with this? Roach has already said they'll fight Cotto if he weighs in at 147, only thing is Cotto's purse will be a few mill light.

I don't know why Roach made the catchweight, I can't see it making any difference. It was presumably to stop Cotto rehydrating too far above Pacquiao's weight on fight night rather than to weaken Cotto because its only 1lb from what he weighed in at against Clottey.

Think about that, he not only made the weight last time but he made it easily enough that further training carried him well inside 147lbs. By all accounts he started training camp even earlier this time.

It's not going to be a factor for Cotto, all Roach has done is provided a ready made excuse for people.

 

**** the title. It pisses me off the way Sky still centre on whatever title is on the line as being significant. HBO don't advertise that way, this is just a great fight.
