I don't know if it makes sense to you guys but I imagined that it would be an interesting match-up... How come these names never came up? Pac fought Cotto, Cotto fought Mayweather.. They're both in the same mix... Also, I think they're styles are a bit different thus could make an interesting battle...

LOL! I see that too... But if you look at mix of their opponents say, Pacman and Mayweather... I think it's possible.... Perhaps a catch weight...

Based on styles, if Marquez' counters won't hurt or back Cotto off then he's in for hell.

Well them to square off is impossible but I think Dinamita can take Cotto's punch, He can sure take Manny's, Cotto couldn't... LOL!

If it was 147 Cotto vs 147 Marquez, I would go for Cotto to win. Marquez isn't exactly a big puncher and never was. Don't be deceived by the Pacquiao KO, it was more Pacquiao's recklessness that caused that as he came wide open and took that punch in full force.

Now regarding taking Pacquiao's punch, yes he can but he can also be seriously hurt as Diaz(not a big puncher), Bradley(not a big puncher at all), Barrera, Katsidis, Mayweather and others proved. I don't expect Cotto to knock him out, no way, but I do expect him to win by decision and possibly drop and hurt Marquez along the way. Cotto isn't a fully aggressive fighter, he fights both ways aggressively and defensively. Marquez can't fight aggressively at all and when he does he looks very ordinary and basic, he's more of a counter puncher. Cotto struggled badly against aggressive and active fighters with power, that's the style that would always trouble Cotto if not beat him badly. Marquez doesn't possess that style.

Styles make fights. Cotto's training and strategy/smarts will determine what will happen if they ever fight imo.

If Cotto bum rushes Marquez and not use his stamina round by round effectively, then JMM will counter him and eventually stops him on cuts or wins by unanimous decision. Remember this is only effective if Cotto bum rushes with his pressure style and gasses.

Now if Cotto fights smart and pressures smart while still employing good defense and good offense and he has great conditioning, I think he will win a decisive decision. Nobody knocks out JMM.

MARQUEZ is better known as one of the premier counter-punchers of his era but he is very effective when he fights aggressively against fighters who are not movers/speedsters(Cotto fits this bill), especially when he has you hurt. I don't think Cotto has the speed to bother JMM. If (big IF) JMM could handle Cotto's pressure this would be his fight. Possible stoppage for JMM a la (Diaz, Katsidiz, Casa).

50/50 fight based on Cotto's size advantage.
