He's beginning to get very irritating. Cotto fighting Golovkin would draw more of an audience than fighting Geale, lol. He needs to give up his belt and go back to 147 or fight GGG.
The business side of boxing. Sucks but it's very real. Same reason why Golovkin, who apparently can't get the elite guys at 160 to fight him, isn't rushing to 168 to face equivalent ranked guys there. It took Golovkin several title defenses (which he won from vacancy over a non-contender) before he ever fought his first top 10 ranked opponent. Cotto is facing a top 10 ranked MW, and one of Golovkins' two best victories, in his first defense of the lineal title. People are holding Cotto to an infinitely higher standard than just about every other top ranked fighter or champion out there. It's inconsistent of fans to do so. I don't hear an uproar over Brook's first two title defenses now. I don't hear an uproar over Kovalev's next title defense. I don't hear an uproar over some of Uchiyama's title defenses. I didn't hear the same people mocking and whining about Cotto's opponent doing the same for Golovkin's last opponent. It sucks. Obviously I'd like to see Cotto/Canelo or Cotto/Golovkin tomorrow as well but you should be aware of what to expect as a boxing fan from the business. None of them would do it if boxing were volunteer work.
He's honest, what I heard was "I don't want to be the guy to make Golovkin a superstar, not right now. Let him accumulate some more value"
You know, if he came up and straight just said "I don't want to fight him because I'd lose", I'd actually have more respect for him.
I completely disagree here. It's not what Cotto's doing, it's what he's saying. I was a huge Cotto fan but he's making an ass of himself. One week after saying GGG hasn't 'earned his shot' he signs to fight Geale. Now he says that GGG doesn't have names on his resume but somehow Geale does a year after getting obliterated by GGG? I absolutely DO hear an uproar about Brook's 2 defenses even though BOTH have been mandos and he's taken them both within 6 months of being stabbed in the f*cking leg in order to free himself up for the 2 big fights he hopes to make by the end of the year. Kovalev's next fight is also a mando... Which of Uchyama's defenses are you upset about? I think the reason you don't hear the same people whining about GGG fighting Monroe as you do complaining about Cotto fighting Geale is because GGG obviously wants to fight Cotto...
