First i would like to see how Hatton would stack up against Paul Malignaggi @ 140, depending on how he would do I would compare it to cottos demolishion of pauly. Hatton is unlikely to do as good as Cotto
Cotto wasn't really drained until towards the end of his time at 140 and even drained I think that he would be able to stop Hatton. Plain and simple, niether guy would stop too many of the other guys punches and it would be a matter of Cotto's harder shots wearing Hatton down. At 147 where Cotto is stronger he just wins easier but he wins at 140 also.
Great post, some of you who say that Cotto would be stopped at 140 and dominate Hatton at 147 needs to realize that there were times when Cotto was comfortable at 140, just becouse he looked drained in his last fights at that weight doesnt make him half the fighter he is at 147. Cotto is simply more skilled fighter and he would beat Hatton in any weight. Some of these debates sounds silly, its like saying that Hatton can beat Wlad just becouse Wlad would need to cut off his legs to make weight. Instead just compare fighters skill wise and youll see that Cotto is level above Hatton.
ya i do think hatton cold beat cotto at 140, but imo hatton has been slipping for awhile, and anyone who doesnt think his lifestyle is going to continue to cause him to slide are fooling themselves and arent living in reality. At 140, Torres gave cotto all he wanted with his aggression and power punching, Hatton would do the same, it would be an all out war and i wouldnt be suprised by ANYTHING in that fight, and imo, true boxing fans wouldnt.
Junior Witter KO's Cotto at 140 in round 8. Cotto was hurt by Torres so I am sure Witter can hurt him as well.
Some One Close To Cotto Told Me He Was Not Feeling To Good At 140. So I Would Say Cotto At 147. And I Did Vote That Way
Torres caught Cotto with some good shots to the head, other than that Cotto was able to overpower him and outskill him. Hatton does not have the style to land those kind of shots on Cotto. The shots that Torres landed were those fully extended arm power shots where he caught Cotto with the full leverage of the shot at the end of the punch. Hatton smothers his power. He is not a 1 shot KO guy like Torres, he is the kind of fighter that wear guys down. The problem is that cotto would be wearing him down right back. I agree that it would be a war at 140 since Cotto would not be as strong as he is at 147 but I still think that he would be stronger than Hatton and that he is a better fighter skillwise. at 140 it's Cotto by late stoppage at 147 it's cotto by mid rounds stoppage.
7lbs makes a huge difference in some cases. Obviously people like Duran and Armstrong can move up easily, but it's not always the case. Especially physically. Hatton is a small 140lber and relies on his physical strength which does not carry. It even made a big bifference for Cotto. His chin was pure china when he was at 140lbs, because he was constantly weight drained. Now, he is taking shots well off Judah and Mosley. The big difference between Cotto and Hatton is one moved up well, the other didn't. Hatton would exploit Cotto's glass jaw at 140lbs in 5. At 147lbs, Cotto would walk through Hatton, before stopping him in 9.
Thats absolute garbage. Have you noticed how Hattons gone up in class his fights have got harder. Thats what happens when you fight an A grade fighter as opposed to the WBU tin cans he was beating up. His in the big leagues now and theres no going back. 7lbs means **** all thats a fact. Cotto stylistically at ANY weight is simply better than Hatton end of story. Your assertion that his chin was china at 140 is ludicrous. Remember his fight with Randall Bailey? Well Bailey was a muderous puncher at 140 he couldnt put a dent in him. Yes he got shook by Torres at 140 but who wouldnt? Torres can bang! Do you really think 7lbs of extra weight is going to make that much of a diffrence to his chin? If your argument is purely based on 7lbs then we may aswell debate the virtues of Hatton vs Roy Jones at 150lbs. Its really that stupid and argument. Now lets look at the facts here. Shane DLH Zab and Cotto all went up in weight and had success. Hatton went a mere 7lbs north failed miserably vs a belt holder and got his ass whupped at 143 vs Floyd. What did the afore mentioned 4 bring to the ring that Hatton didnt?
Actually 145. I don't care who you were on that night floyd would kick the **** out of you. I was there and it was hard to watch after the 6th round.
This may be true but the reason why Floyd would do that is because? Thats right because his the BETTER fighter.
I never said hatton was a better fighter, I thought he would do well and nick it but at the end of the day too much talent at the other end. Ok do you go with the ingle analysis that witter would beat floyd or would he get his arse handed to him.
