Who is the biggest name Castillo has beat at 140? A split over Ngoudo. :/

Was his first fight at the weight, afterall he was never gonna make 135 again after the Corrales fiasco.

Without bias. Everyone elses opinions aside how impressed are you really with the Castillo win? Here is the way I see it.

Castillo was 34 years old with 63 grueling fights behind him. He was so far past his physical prime that he could no longer make a weight that he had been able to make his entire career. He has recently been through a fight that probably made him age about 10 years in 1 night. his previous 2 fights he looked horrible and was already apearing to be a shell of his former self. And as I said before he was above his best wieght.

That's my opinion. How did everyone else see it at the time? Castillo was a 4-1 betting underdog even here in the states where Ricky is not very popular. Castillo was nothing other than a good name on Ricky's resume but I will never consider it a great win. IMO Hatton fans show their bias and lose credibiility when they claim otherwise

The win i honestly expected although many weren't so sure. However the fashion in which Ricky stopped him was World Class. I doubt anyone picked Ricky to KO Castillo in 4.

Like I said before. The fact that there was a few clueless fools that picked Castillo does not outweigh the fact that the vast majority of people knew that Castillo didn't have a chance. Plenty of people picked Gatti to beat Floyd and DLH to beat hopkins, that does not change the fact that they were obvious mismatches.

He did take care of business faster than expected I'll give you that but I'll maintain the position that it was a shell of a prime Castillo at his ideal weight.

I disagree he koed Diego, then after a lengthy lay off squeaked a decision out of Hernan Ngojudo who is a fairly handy operator, although the performance was somewhat lackluster. He didn't look shot to me prior to fighting Ricky. In fact he was still ranked fairly highly by everyone untill Ricky made short work of him. Hatton haters always bring up a similar argument about Tszyu being shot its pathetic.

If you read my previous posts you will see that I agree with you 100% about Tzyu but it's not the same deal. Tzyu was "the man" at 140, his previous performance was an utter destruction of Sharmba Mitchell, he hadn't even been in any danger of losing a fight in years or so much as had a bad outing, he was at his best weight and he was about a 3-1 betting favorite going into the fight. You can't make a guy a 3-1 favorite going into a fight and change your mind when he loses and say he was shot. Castillo doesn't fit the same criteria though as I have stated in previous posts.

    Hatton KO at 140
    Cotto KO at 147

Cotto had to go on hunger strike to make 140 by the end, which Hatton would thrive on.

We all know Hatton cannot compete at welter, therefore I have gone for Cotto.

    Spot on.

Anyone who says Tzsyu was shot, clearly doesn't know the fight game at all.

I wouldn't say Castillo was shot, he defeated Herman Ngoudjo before the Hatton fight (hardly a bum, as he beat Paulie IMO), but I would be kidding myself if I said Castillo was in his prime, which he clearly wasn't.

I didn't take Hatton to KO4, more like TKO8 - the performance was very impressive. I would take Hatton to beat Castillo 9/10 times both in prime, as Castillo's style is made for Ricky.

In your previous post you stated that you are going to have to go with Hatton at 140 because Cotto was weight drained and with Cotto at 147 because Hatton can't fight at Welter.

I think people are making too much of the weight issue which became apparent in his last couple of fights at L.Welter. So everyone is disregarding his dozen pluz fights before those 2-3 fights were he looked drained at the weigh-in.

You saying that Cotto takes it at 147 because Hatton can't handle the weight implies that if he could that he would take Cotto.

You can't base Cottos run at 140 because his last few fights he looked drained at the weigh in. He still dominted his opposition looking weight drained.

Prime Castillo is 135. Prime Hatton is 140. Prime for Prime Castillo is better than Hatton. See Castillo vs PBF 1:deal

With that said Cotto takes out Hatton at any weight. Cotto is just technically superior. BTW I like hatton but I just have to call it as I see it.

I think Cotto was excellent against Mosley, but feel that some are getting a little carried away by saying that Miguel is the second coming. If truth be told, Shane really should have won that one.

    I like Cotto BTW!

Cotto is technically superior I agree, but superior technique doesn't always mean you win!

All I can judge them on are their respective performances at LWW & WW - hence my choice of Hatton at 140, and Cotto at 147. Nobody has really got close to beating Hatton at 140, Tszyu probably came closest, whilst Miguel has looked much better at 147 than he ever did at 140.

Perhaps this is a theme - European fighters always start at their best weight - Hatton 140, Calzaghe 168 etc and stay there generally, maybe move up one division, whilst those elsewhere start as low as they possibly can - PBF/ODLH 130, Pacman etc and move through the divisions as they get older (off topic I know)

Well at least I can say that you are honest in stating that Cotto is technically superior.

I disagree on that Mosley should have won the fight. I think people made to much out of Miguel showing some versatility by fighting on the back foot which we are not accustomed to seeing. I was one of them. Cotto was fighting going back but was clearly landing the cleaner harder shots.

Cottos jab had Mosleys neck popping back and forth all night.

If you say that Cotto is tech superior than hatton I think you are making to much of the weight issue.

So how does hatton beat Miguel at 140? Do you think that he would outpower Cotto because he did it to others?
