I disagree.. Prime Vargas had better skills in my opinion.. taking nothing away from Cotto, he's a great fighter too..

Either way it was close skillwise.

They both were good schooled fighters.

Vargas had a more lewaky defense IMO but fought better on the backfoot.

cotto has always been a sitting duck for an uppercut and Vargas was accurate and vicious when he came to landing uppercuts. Vargas would've and still will demolish the horrid defense of Cotto.

Their both great fighters, it would make for a good argument!

You haven't followed boxing too long have you? Vargas was truly a prodigy with so much potential. He had a meteoric rise at such a young age and then was thrown in against a prime Tito Trinidad. Yes he lost but he gave Trinidad all he could handle. He also gave DelaHoya a rough time until Oscar's power and experience caught up to Fernando like what happened with Felix. Vargas holds a win over Winky Wright(debateable yes but certainly no robbery), a more decisive victory over Ike Quartey than Oscar had, and he really pushed Mosley in their first fight before his swollen eye took him out of the fight. The big bad welter weight Sugar Shane we have now.

He wasn't disrespectful about his opinion(which everyone is entitled to voice), so there is no need to trash him. If he's not entitled to give his opinion than practically everyone that posts here who never got even close to the level he was as a pro boxer certainly isn't either.:nono

I think you are right....its getting to him and motivating him even more.
However, I really don't think Roach talks trash on a daily basis without Manny's wink and smile !!!!

I think Gato Figueroa is more capable of giving Cotto a good sparring session than these 2 remaining sparring partners of Cotto...

Light welter Kenny Abril (9-3-1, 5 KOs), 25 year old
Welter Fred Tukes, (7-1-1, 5 KOs), 36 year old

    :-D

Getting Cotto angry is not a good idea. I sometimes feel that Cotto is a little passive in the ring and could do with a bit more agression, the Quintana fight is a perfect example of where he was pissed off and Carlos got a brutal beatdown for his troubles!

That was uncalled for, Vargas just said it like it is, it's his prediction. If you want to shut him up prove him wrong, talking earlier just proves that his comment bothered Cotto.

I agree with Vargas, I don't think Cotto has what it takes to handle what Pac can deliver. Cotto has been hurt/wobbled by almost EVERYONE he fought.

    Vargas
    • Winky Wright
    • Yory boy Campas
    • Ike Quartey
And losses to Mosley x 2, Trinidad, Mayorga and De la Hoya

    Cotto
    • Mosley
    • Judah
    • Malinaggi
    • Clottey
    • Quintana
    • (Pacquiao)
One questionable loss to Antonio Margarito

Vargas has a far superior resume ? :patsch

I'm guessing Cotto was not pissed off even the slightest bit leading to the Margacheato fight...;)

That's hard to do when there's always a burrito lodged in there.
