By Mike Taffert, the CEO of HBO PPV, today. More over at boxingnews24.com Great success considering how little this was advertised. This figure beat Mayweather-Maidana 1, 2 and Mayweather-Berto.
great news! i thought it would hit a million but it is holiday season. $75 can buy alot of gifts or turkey and stuff so great news. GGG-Canelo will do a mil. Canelo finally got a big win and GGG has many many fans.
How much of that is attributable to Alvarez? I'm not yet convinced that Alvarez is some big ppv star.
The entre Arena was chanting Mexico or Canelo, add to the fact that the biggest PPV consumers are Mexican and Mexican-American, add to that fact that Canelo is the hottest thing in boxing right now.
not surpized.. casuals aren't stupid they knew cotto was old and past it and a lot of them aren't sold on canelo after he got humilitated by Mayweather.
lol To the rescue!!! What was Alvarez's ppv totals for the Lara fight? I would be willing to bet that more people tuned in to see Cotto than Alvarez.
So what?? If it was in NY, the whole crowd would've been chanting for Cotto.. That doesn't gauge the PPV buys..
I read he did 425k with Lara, but guess what? Nobody knows who Lara is, and they DO NOT CARE WHO LARA IS, because Lara is a boring farce who should be banned for the sport for his cowardly approach in the ring.
300K is the number that keeps coming up on Google. Outside of Pac and Cotto, Alvarez is probably the biggest ppv star out there but he needs a very well known dancing partner to make big numbers.
Slightly higher than the 800k+ high side I forecasted. Perhaps now those who don't know understand what we were saying about A and B side events. 150k = B side 900k = A side Canelo has ALL the top billing against Golovkin. 70/30 split.
