OK I agree but whose fault is it really?? The silly boxing fans that but buy the scrub PPV's. If no one bought em they'd stop.
I think it's perfectly plausible the PPV numbers are artificially inflated; this is a common way to launder drug and arms money. It's not like these top boxing bosses are chair boys. For example, look at what POS Bob Arum did and got away with in Pac - Bradley 1.
So lets take the middle ground. 800,000 still isn't much for two high level names. Pac v. Clottey and Floyd v. Maidana sold about that much and Clottey and Maidana weren't marquee names. This fight maybe the best Canelo does as close to an A side. It actually means as a ticket seller, he is more Cotto than Floyd.
I wonder if the 900k figure includes theatre tickets, and the 650 doesn't. Just a thought. Otherwise I'd point out that Rock0052 has the best read on it, theres still a lot of money outside of direct buys. Plus the claims on Cottos split were vehemently denied by GBP, I think its most likely that any inflated Cotto purse figures if they exist came out of or at least were guaranteed by JayZ's pocket. The HBO guys that do PPV projections are pretty good, I think its unlikely that the promotion lost money even if it was not as smashing of a success as they might have wished.
They are reporting that they already crossed the 900k so that's not true. And I don't care about ppv buys.
