Cotto Canelo PPV buys 900k. Ensures Canelo won't fight GGG

The title sums it up. Throw in the site fee paid by Mandalay Bay, the promoters and fighters made good money.

How many PPVs would Canelo vs GGG do? If say MAX 600k buys because Golovkin is simply not popular enough. Canelo has His built in fanbase while GGG is supported by the core boxing base.

The question being: why the he** would Canelo take the risk of getting KOd for less money???

    He wont.

Canelo can fight who ever he wants. Just not with the Middleweight title on the line.

If he doesn't fight GGG he has to vacate. Simple as that.

Now the tides are turned now the fire is on Canelo was tired of flame treads over Cotto and that dam middleweight belt. Canelo sure has no excuses because He is even bigger than GGG

What makes people think Canelo makes less money against GGG?

He took a 25% cut of the guaranteed purse against Cotto in order to get him in the ring: 5 million out of the 20 million guaranteed purse fund. Against Golovkin, it's not out of the question he gets 75-80% on top of his Tv Azteca money and sponsorships, which I'm not including here to focus purely on domestic PPV.

So, even if the event doesn't sell 900k domestically, Alvarez can still make more money than he did against Cotto. At 500k buys @ $65 average weighted selling price, that brings in $32.5 million. Take out the cable company's split (50%) and that'd leave $16.25 million to pay the fighters (just from that one revenue source).

Canelo getting an 80% split of that still translates into $13 million- more than 2 and a half times what he was guaranteed against Cotto.

GGG-Canelo could sell 250k and Canelo would still make more because he's going to get that much of the split, and he took that little against Cotto.

That is also why, if this fight gets ordered to purse bids, it's toast. They can negotiate whatever split they want now, but it's (according to WBC rules anyways) mandated to have a 55-45 split if the fight goes to purse bids. Not gonna happen.

Lol. The money made on the fight didn't determine anything regarding whether Canelo fights GGG. It's the title and the WBC.

Some people are so preoccupied with money, that they forget that boxing is still somewhat a sport.

Besides, Canelo makes more selling 600k against Golovkin than selling 900k against Cotto.

The original premise of the OP isn't accurate.
