Championship fights matter. Seeing as alphabet titles are *meaningless*, ALPHABET TITLE FIGHTS DO NOT MATTER.

Sure thing, just as soon as you show me a picture of a WBC title prior to 1963...

A boxing fan is standing up for the corruption in boxing... Priceless.

When Hill v Maske spent 5 years as 1 and 2, most people considered the winner to be the true champion. A fight between two men clearly the best in the division. Jones never got involved in the lineage.

If Golovkin gets stripped, I wonder if Barcham will stop recognising him as champion?

I don't really believe you. Time will tell, all greats get stripped eventually.

Golovkin will not get stripped. As Klitchko, he is not avoiding anybody and will fight all mandatories for as long as he stays at MW.

When you have 4 mandatroies a year all competing for priority, that's harder said than done.

Only Hopkins has been able to keep all 4 belts intact throughout his reign as far as I know.

Hopkins' reign as the WBC/WBA/IBF/WBO champion was short...

Tyson wasn't the lineal champ while undisputed for 4 fights. Everyone saw him as the legit champion, and Spinks even got ridiculed for not wanting to leave the dressingroom first while he was the lineal champ.
Nobody saw Mariusz as the LHW champ and nobody saw Briggs as the HW champ... lineal is complete nonsense once there's a undisputed champion in place, that's why it's called "undisputed" wich means beyond dispute.

Being the man that beat the man that beat the man and then running away from the man that's gonna whoop your ass, so he can't become the man, forfits your claim of being "the man".
Maybe he should channel Floyd, and say; "I'm a coward, but I'm a lineal coward"

The only way GG loses out is if there is a rematch. He loses time, and that's it. Cotto still paid step aside money to GG which means that if neither guy faces him in their next fight, they could be stripped. I'm not sure if Canelo would be given a voluntary defense, but he would have to face GG after that voluntary defense if he is given one or be stripped. GG is in a good position to get a shot at the lineal champion and if it doesn't happen, then I don't see how anyone can find fault with him.

The lineal champion's claim to the title is undisputed...

That can only happen when a belt is stripped. Imo that should never be the case.

No other fight brings as much money to the table. I suspect there will be a rematch regardless of who wins. The only way I don't see that happening is if Cotto loses and temporarily retires.
