He said this to Kellerman after his Geale fight. Was he taking a shot at Canelo or was it his English limitations that were in play here?? He quickly followed it up with "another chapter" Was that a correction of his English or correction of his blunt choice of wording? On one hand it's unlike him to bad mouth an opponent like that but Canelo has accused Cotto of ducking him, either way, Canelo will be wishing Cotto was ducking him come September.
He couldnt praise Freddie Roach enough. He has enough confidence in Roach to give him a game plan where he feels he could take on anyone and beat them (except GGG for some reason).
Very true, I give a ton of credit to Freddie also...Cotto finally picked the right trainer after his falling out with his uncle.
He has looked really good since making the switch to Roach. The fight with Canelo should be a hell of a fight.
There was no malice in it. I think he's trying to play down the significance and possible pressure people have put on the fight, and after fighting Pacquiao, Mayweather, Mosley, Margarito, Martinez etc he's more than entitled to do so. Even after last night's farce.
Canelo might win, but it's unlikely he'd just whoop Cotto. Cotto is more skilled both offensively and defensively. He's also got more experience and faster feet than Canelo, while Canelo might have the slightly faster hands and power edge. It'd be a fight where if Canelo won, he'd likely be down on the cards but catches Cotto with something big(my guess would be an uppercut) and gets a comeback stoppage. However, I'd favor Cotto.
Canelo Cotto is a huge fight for all the right reasons They should fight to trounce all over WHOEVER Floyd fights at the end of the year (unless he picks Cotto II :rofl) actually wish Floyd & Pac would retire...then we could have lots of great fights.
you mean with all the catchweights and drugs? hes the dirtiest **** in the sport yet gets a pass cause people just love pooch and cotto
Indeed. This is the first time I've seen Cotto so serious in the corner listening to everything his trainer tells him and goes out there instantly applying.
I think he meant that he is extremely confident now under Roach as others have pointed out and although I am sure he is training his ass off, he isn't viewing Canelo as an opponent that he and Roach won't find a way to beat as they have with the previous ones.
To me, the difference in this fight has always been that Canelo is younger, bigger, stronger. I respect Cotto, but all of those things do matter when it comes to boxing.
I hoped he would have faced him already. Hoever, Roach said recently that Alfred "GGG" Newman needs to get his PPV numbers up first...!!!!
