Cotto defeats Margarito, as the experts on this site say. Because, Cotto brings a lot more to the table. Better footwork, jab, just a all round better arsenal. Funny,,none of this applies to Floyd, who has these things (x)10. OH Dear God, i beg you, please come down and defeat the great Floyd Myweather. The New Englang Patriots type hate is disturbing. Only knowledgable comments, no internet gangstas
Have most of the real boxing experts, journalists, commentators, analysts, etc..already made their predictions as to the outcome of that fight ?
I can admit that Cotto has the upper hand in the fight no doubt and its a sure bet for him, but the reason this fight is so dangerous is because it can end at any moment with either man dropping the other do not underestimate the tijuana tornado as Cotto will be taken by the flurry if he ever decides to trade shots.
Floyd is a far more skilled fighter than Margarito, but the best approach towards beating a boxer that you cannot outbox is to apply pressure and volume. The fact that Floyd is a former 130 lb fighter and doesn't have the power of a natural 147 lb fighter with similiar attributes, say SRL, makes a fight with Margarito more dangerous than it should be. The reason is because, generally the best way to beat a guy that comes right at you and wants to apply pressure and throw a lot of punches is to hit him HARD on the way in. The problem is that Floyd isn't a very powerful puncher and if the Cintron fight was any indication of how Margarito reacts to a hard puncher, then Margarito has one hell of a chin. So this is the type of fight where Mayweather is going to have to really showcase his boxing skills and stay on his feet from start to finish while still being able to hit Margarito with enough force on the way in, and dedicate himself at least a little to his body to keep Margo honest. If Floyd is unable to keep Margarito at bay he's going to have to run the majority of the fight and try to steal rounds with flurries, similiar to what SRL did to Hagler. That's why this would be a dangerous fight for Floyd. At the same time though, I may be overestimating Margarito's abilities because he is sloppy, and cumbersome, but he does keep coming.
All that will go out the window if Cotto cant deal with Margos punching power stamina and pressure. All the footwork speed and boxing skill sets wont mean a damn if he cant inflinct equal pain on the other guy. Im going for Cotto and I admire the guts he has for takeing this fight.
I agree with you. Like I always said Margo doesnt have the best abilities out there it is pretty obvious but the fact that he keeps coming and takes shots with a smile is pretty ****ing scary. At the same time this is why I think Cottos only way to win would be by getting on his bike.
Yeah, but at 147, he's reaching his limitations. At this weight he might be a lot more one dimensional than people would like to see. Chances are is that he's going to have to play the role of a boxer against the majority of opponents. This makes no difference though. He retired.
cotto will outbox margarito for the first 4 rounds but margaritos presure and relentless stamina will cath up to cotto and he will stop him on the 10 rd brutaly margo ko
Cotto has some pretty good boxing ability, but he is being badly overrated at this point. I would say that Cotto is more so an intelligent, well timed fighter than a skilled one. In recent fights he's gotten alot of credit, alot of credit, for doing more boxing and less body destroying. The fact that his opponents were expecting him to be going downstairs when he was going upstairs, or were expecting him to be throwing power punches when he was jabbing - the clean, deceptive scoring that he did primarily against two men - Shane Mosley and Alfonso Gomez has turned Cotto into a Puerto Rican Pernell Whitaker. The truth is Cotto has shown strong boxing ability throughout his career, but his bread and butter has been body destroying - and not for no reason. Cotto personally prides himself on having technical skill, and looking good in the ring, and he's loathe to give up either in a fight, but more than anything he cares about winning, however he has to get it done. The truth about Cotto is that he is always two fighters in one. He is both a boxer/puncher and a pure body destroyer. The truth about Cotto is that he has been outboxed and outskilled on many occasions, but he's quick to switch modes and make adjustments.
