cotto denies 13 million pacquiao rumor blames weight

    over at the scene...cotto says that the 13 million dollar offer was not true and that it came down to weight. "that is not true the main reason in the pacquiao conversation is that they wanted me to go down to 150. same as in 2009 when they MADE me go down to 145, so they can take ADVANTAGE OF THAT. that was the real reason of refusing the rematch. Back in 2009 it was the inexperience that mde me do it but im not going to fight manny at a catchweight again."

    cotto was definitely bullied into that fight in 2009. They wanted 142-143 then settled with 145 but cotto said no belt on the line and bob threw in some more cash cottos way and basically got him to sign. Good for cotto

    i understand if cotto doesn't want to fight @150 against pac but let's be honest here, he has no problem asking margarito to fight @150 for his LMW title defense. and cotto has already given props to pac 3 years ago mentioning that weight is not a problem and felt good at the weight which is just 1 pound from his previous fight at WW. don't tell me cotto is flip-flopping now and making some excuse for his loss.

    i can't see the reason why they would want cotto to go down to 150 which is complete bull****. cotto clearly can't make it healthy below 154 anymore. cotto never lies so i tend to believe him.

    As another poster mentioned, Cotto has said previously categorically said that weight wasn't a problem in the fight, but in retrospect he's making it more of an issue than it was. Which is fair enough, he wants to spare his ego a little bit after getting utterly destroyed. Look what he *willingly* weighed in against Clottey, then what he *unwillingly* weighed for Manny, we are talking 1lb difference.

    well he hated brickfists so it's only a way of irating him. but in truth his body can't make 150 anymore. he says it and i believe it. i've been a big fan since him and money fought. one helluva of a monster at 154.

    cotto fans thinking this would reflect good on cotto by downplaying pac's win over him. not really. cotto would be seen as making some excuse for losing that fight especially when he admitted defeat 3 years earlier.
