its a ww fight...jww is 136-140...he should be ok and comfortable making 145...if it was at 143 I wouldnt be so sure to pick him to win this fight...at 145 he dont have to starve himself for a day or two to hit the weight

People think that you can drop weight, and always be right on your fighting weight. To lose two pounds when you've been weighing in heavier for almost 3 years is tough even if it doesn't sound tough. Sometimes it's close, but more so, guys are on schedule to make weight. Hopefully Cotto is not doing what Miranda did when he fought Abraham by eating foods that help you to make weight rather than food that will last in the system to be used for energy for a 12 round fight.

Sorry, but just about every fighter weighs in at the limit of the division they are fighting in.

Maybe Cotto should have been disqualified against Clottey since he came in as a "Junior Welterweight"

While i can't accept Polymath's contention that this fight is at junior ww (because it clearly isn't), neither can I accept it as a Welterwt bout either, because again, it clearly isn't.

In a WW bout, each fighter is permitted to weigh up to 147 lbs. IF Cotto is constrained from coming in at the maximum 147 permitted of welterweights, then the fight is NOT a WW bout but rather, a catchweight bout.

And that's just fine, if both agree. But it should not be for a WW title when it clearly isn't a WW bout.

I keep seeing the question: What difference will two pounds make?

Very obviously, SOME DIFFERENCE, otherwise, why would Roach have demanded it.

Pac, if he has insisted on 145, has presented Cotto with an instant pre-made excuse.

(Not much of a one, IMO, but an excuse nonetheless).

IMO, the fight should have been made at 147, thus removing any hint of excuse and making it a true ww title bout.

As a fan of both, I don't believe that the 145 makes a huge difference. I don't quite understand why Pac is the favourite here, and I expect Cotto to win, probably by KO.

In any event, Cotto could come in at 147 and what is Roach to do ?

    Cancel the fight ?

Not if he's ever to be in anybody's corner ever again.

The sanctioning bodies cannot complain if Cotto comes in at 147. In fact, this is pobably what Cotto should do.

I picked against Pac in his Oscar fight

I made it 60-40 in Oscar's favour, but that was before I knew that Oscar wasn't going to have a weight advantage. Had I known that, I would have made Oscar a much narrower favourite.

I was wrong again in picking against Pac in his Hatton fight. I felt Hatton was too big and strong for him. In hindsight, Hatton wasn't, and Hatton was a bit past his best.

It might seem foolish then to pick against Pac a third consecutive time, especially when I'd picked him to win most of his previous fights.

However, Cotto will (probably ) not be weight-drained, past prime or ill-prepared.

And he's a much better boxer than Hatton and hits much harder. He's not quite as good as Pac, but the margin is close and IMO, more than balanced by his size and strength.

I won't be shocked, or even surprised if Pac pulls this off. He continues to improve with every outing.

But I'm leaning towards Cotto by a small margin here. And probably inside the distance.

2 pounds will not be much. Cotto was 146 for Clottey. Now if Cotto comes in 143 1/2 then I would be a little worried. If he comes in right at 145 then what is the big deal? I think the fast hands of Manny and Cotto being a little shopworn means Manny wins this fight on cuts in rounds 6 or 7.
