Apply logic to this conversation. point #1. Cotto gets hit solid at least once in almost every fight I've seen him in. Point #2. 3G has a very solid chin for 160. Point #3. Cotto doesn't have the punch to take 3G out. Point #4. 3G is a great finisher once he gets someone hurt. Now apply these irrefutable facts to the fight and you get Cotto getting rocked and taken out by the fourth. Cotto can try to out box 3G but, 3G cuts the ring off very well. Eventually 3G lands the big bomb and takes Cotto out. Also , if Cotto decides to box he looses his punching power because he won't be sitting down on his punches, thus making it even more difficult to hurt 3G with his shots. This is a bad match up for Cotto in all cases. I don't think Freddie lets Cotto get within a mile of any ring 3G is fighting in.

    :deal

Cotto just snagged a lineal.. GGG-Geale is Ring #1 vs #2 , Cotto should fight the winner of that fight.

Not only would it be a good fight, but fighting the universally recognized top contender for top 160 belt would be good for the sport.

I was thinking along the same lines...however, there are some here that are making a strong case against it!!!

What is a lineal title even worth if the holder is unwilling to fight the top guys in the division though?

As far as I am concerned Cotto has told the world loud and clear that he wants to be considered the best at 160. If some people dont think he can, those are the guys he should prove wrong - if he can.

Let's hope Terry takes a ban bet if this fight ever gets made.

Before shopworn Sergio Cotto had only beaten one incumbent champion who was... Yuri Foreman. He's not this monster his fans make out.

I like Cotto but it's always funny to watch him lose just to watch the fanboys cry.

I see it more like when Roy Jones Jr won the HW title. He took a challenge, achieved what he wanted to and now he should move back down.

Cotto would most definitely have some success, but facing GG would be like facing someone with Margarito's chin and endurance, LHW power in the hands of a MW, and skills on near or on Miguel''s level, the fight might even resemble Cotto-Tony I: Miguel would take a needless and horrific beating

Not really, since Cotto and Golovkin are in the same weight class now, therefore we aren't talking about "P4P". Most of Cotto's wins were small guys from lower divisions that would likely pose virtually no problems to Golovkin at MW. On the other hand, the odds would be against Cotto if he tried to defeat all of the guys Golovkin has beaten.
It's like saying that Carl Froch would defeat Marco Huck at Cruiser just because he faced better "P4P" opposition. Literally makes no sense.

THANK YOU! I'm sick of people mentioning their opposition where it doesn't apply.

The small one here is Judah.

I've never heard anyone refer to

    Martinez
    Mosley
    Margarito
    Mayorga
    Clottey
    Rodriguez
    Foreman

    as small guys!!!
