But he did, he didn't ***** out like other fighters and took a fight that he knew would be difficult to win. I don't think Cotto gets enough props, for being a class guy but he should, Margo is a freak at welter and a difficult challenge for anyone to handle especially a smaller man like Cotto. Respect Cotto.... Respect

AMEN! Cotto gets respect for at least showing up. Now, of course what he does with the rest of his career and how he bounces back will ultimate determine how people remember him.

I respect Cotto, but he basically had to fight Margo. He tried to fight Oscar instead. Once that fell through, he had no other legitimate options. His promoter was dead set on matching him up with Margo, and there was no other big money fights out there for him.

Top Rank backed Cotto into a corner and put a great deal of public pressure on him months and years before it happened to manipulate this fight. The only time Cotto has ever publicly spoken out against fighting anyone were the times he was asked about Margarito after Judah and Mosley. On more than one occasion Cotto said "Margarito had his chance to fight me." I respect the fact that Cotto didn't completely run to some extent, but that's only because Arum blocked the door before he could get out.

he did what he was suppose to do, just remember the odds on that fight.most thought cotto would outbox margo a full 12 rds, and he did it for about 6 or 7 !

cotto new what margo could do he just over estimated himself and under estimated margo !

Margarito had lost to Paul Williams who had lost to Quintana who Cotto blasted.

Margarito was supposed to lose wide and even get KO by Cotto. 80% believed this, and I'm sure Cotto did too.

Here it is. More hate by UliUli.

Margarito was coming off a destruction of Cintron the second time around. Sure he lost to Williams, but he came on strong in the second half of that fight too.

Give credit where it's due. Cotto didn't HAVE to fight Margarito, but he did because he wanted to fight the best available. Fighting Judah and Mosley beforehand show his desire to fight the best.

Margarito is the #1 welter in the world now, but Cotto is still young. The earlier poster had it right when he said that Miguel will be judged based on how he responds to the first loss (a TKO no less) of his career. I, for one, think he will respond by winning another belt en route to a rematch with Margarito down the line when neither will have anyone to fight.

He didn't underestimate Margarito. He was quoted as saying this would be a very hard fight long before fight night arrived.

It seems like everyone who understands boxing gets it, and everyone else who doesn't understand boxing just completely overlooks it. Margarito is a tough, tough fight for anybody. Especially at that level where he is in there to make a statement. Cotto did everything humanly possible to beat Margarito and failed. Anyone else at 147 that night against Cotto would have been beaten. No doubt in my mind.

I agree except the last part , If cotto fought the way he fought Margo he would lose to quite a number of other top 147 fighters
