    Oh no, you misunderstand.

See Cotto instinctively is a fighter. He will abandon a boxing gameplan if he is buggered long enough and consistently. The kind of pressure Margarito puts on people for example.

Lots of guys have gotten in the ring with the intention of boxing circles around Margarito. And many of them have failed to do so. What you don't understand even about Cotto is that once the punches start getting through the boxing goes right out the window.

Boxing is easy when the man across the ring from you respects you. He doesn't walk through your punches and doesn't have a fearless mentality. Margarito has a fearless mentality and he has the ability to walk through damage. His punching style is not to knock you out with one punch, but to consistently beat you to a pulp. No different than Cotto. It won't be one shot, and that makes it even more difficult on Cotto to box.

If Margarito loaded up on one bomb at a time he'd be much easier to deal with. But he doesn't do that. He applies a consistent amount of damage over a whole arsenal of punches upstairs and downstairs. It's hard to box a guy like that. If you know anything about stepping inside on a taller man, trying to get your punches off it means a whole lot to you how many punches are coming back in return. A simple 1-2 is not hard to deal with. But when it becomes a 1-2-3-4 punch combination you have to rethink how you approach it.

Again nobody in recent times has gotten in the ring with Margarito and walked out unscathed. Nobody. And there were some very capable boxers, dare I say some like Santos who would rival Cotto's boxing skill. Margarito has been beaten by guys who soaked up his damage and survived the distance to win on points. Cotto will end up going through the same test.

I've said before and I'll say it again. Margarito does not struggle with smaller opponents. The Clottey fight you can hang onto for dear life. There will be a new example come July 26th. One that will reaffirm exactly what I am telling you. A man with this sort of size advantage, with this style, knowing how to place uppercuts and how to discourage a smaller man from getting inside is a heavy favorite in my eyes.

See that's been my main point all along Ambition. Versatility. The 'fearlessnes' and 'warrior mentality' the Margarito fans are putting too much stock on, because honestly, that's all they can bank on. What if that fails? What if Cotto doesn't get discouraged? What if Margarito gets hurt? Margarito is not invincible. He has an amazing ability to take punches but it's getting exagerrated around these parts to the point that it's getting ridiculous.

Cotto is already training with huge guys with humongous punch output who can emulate Margarito's style, which is not very hard to do- just move forward, punch relentlessly, bodyshots, hooks, uppercuts here and there, and not let up. The Cotto camp has prepared for it and is expecting a tough one-trick pony come fight night. They will be ever so ready.

When has Cotto ever abandoned his game plan like you say. He actually adjusted beautifully against Mosley late, didn't throw anything out the window...stayed very composed and did what he had to

Who? and again why do you think Cotto will abandon his boxing once Margo starts throwing??

Margo doesn't fight tall though, he will be out jabbed in this fight by the quicker and more explosive Cotto. And his "1-2-3-4 punch combinations" will be interrupted by Cotto's shots which are straighter, faster and stronger.

But he did struggle with Clottey and he is a class below Cotto even. Also, Margo may be the taller man but it is no where near certainty that he will be the stronger man in that ring.

That isn't all we bank on.

Hypothetically if Cotto doesn't break down and if Margarito does get hurt it'll be a closer fight. But Margarito won't stop even if he is hurt. He didn't against Santos. He survived the oncoming damage and still managed to hurt Santos in return. He didn't with Clottey either, despite having a sprained ankle and being rocked by a good counter. If Cotto doesn't break down then that means he'll just take a bigger beating.

And he will take a beating. If you think sparring with these big guys is going to prepare him for Margarito you are mistaken. Remember it is just sparring. They aren't trying to take his head off in sparring. They aren't throwing a 1000 punches over 12 rounds either. Margarito will be trying to seriously hurt him in the ring. And when that sort of punch is coming at you, in the dozens, your perception and sense in the ring will be put to the test.

Cotto has broken down before when hit hard. I don't see why it wouldn't happen here. He has won everytime on his heart, sure. But if he breaks down into a brawler with Margarito's own heart, size and style he will get knocked out. He will go out on his shield which is what most of us picking Margarito expect.

Just remember who was physical with Cotto and who put him to the test. Cotto's hardest fights imo were Abdulaev, Torres and Lovemore Ndou. All three guys gave Cotto a physical fight, not a boxing test.

I agree. You shouldnt put all your confidence on one attribute a fighter has, especially if that attribute has "never" been tested by a top tier opponent. Yes, Margarito is relentless, but against who exactly. Yes, he throws lots of punches, but against who and how many of those shots actually connect.

Margarito is a good fighter, but he is being made out to be some unstoppable force. Every man bleads and hurts. I dont care how good his chin is, it can be hurt. I doubt his body is as good as his chin. His body will definitely get tested come July 26th.

The same with Cotto. He is not unstoppable by any means. However, he has every advantage needed to defeat Margarito.

Margarito's punch output will be nullified by Cotto's accuracy and movement.

Margarito's reach advantage will be nullified by his own inside fighting where Cotto has advantage b/c of his compactness.

Margarito's height will not be advantage b/c he doesnt use it and it will only leave a bigger target for Cotto's body work.

Margarito's biggest asset is his uppercut, which Marg fans are putting too much emphasis on. Cotto is not a stupid fighter who will allow Margarito to hit him all night with the same punch. (Cotto is not dumb like Hatton)

Cotto will have a plan B. If he sees Marg is catching him, he will do something to negate that.

People who see Cotto winning have asked Marg supporters many times, WHAT WILL MARG DO IF HIS PLAN DOESNT WORK??? I have yet to see an answer from anyone. Are you really so confident that Marg's plan will work? There is a strong possibility that it wont.

You can ask Cotto supporters how we think Cotto will win in a multiple ways, however how many ways can Marg win??

When has Cotto even looked like he was about to break down in the ring? He has proven his heart and ability to recover time and time again. He has fought wars with Judah and Mosley. He's been badly hurt and come back to finish his opponent. He is recognized as one of the toughest and most professional fighters in the game today. What type of strategy is this that Margo is bringing in honestly. overwhelm, discourage and break this man down????? Oh boy....good luck Margo

IF Cotto hurts Marg, it will most likely be to the body where Marg has never truly been tested. I dont care who you are, if you get hurt in the body, you are not going to keep coming forward. MARGARITO IS NOT INVINCIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Mosley fight will give you no indication of it. Check out the fights I mentioned. Noteably Torres, Abdulaev and Ndou. In those fights he faced consistent pressure from hard punchers. In the first two he was in danger of being stopped before he won the battle on willpower. The last he won but only by 2 points I believe. It was a close fight.

Mosley rarely looked to pin Cotto because being the same reach as Cotto he did not favor his chances inside along the ropes. So he backed off whenever Cotto ended up on the ropes. Margarito won't do that for reasons I will explain down below.

What else is he going to do? Let Margarito continue to abuse his arms and his face with consistent pressure?

Look at the Santos fight for just one example. Santos did try and keep distance on Margarito but it was impossible because of Margarito's overhand right. Santos actually did better inside. Whenever Santos backed off he paid for it by catching overhand rights and lead uppercuts along the ropes. You don't beat a guy like Margarito by giving him his space to build up his pressure. Once he finds you he finds you and that is that. He throws too many punches for you to block everything.

Sure he does. What fight are you basing this off of? He fought tall against everyone I have seen spar Clottey because he couldn't step onto the backfoot (was sprained, as you well know).

Man you guys are hard of hearing or just plain blind. It has been explained. Was Clottey the only one who came into that fight less than 100%? Don't be so naive. Of course he wasn't. A sprained ankle can be a nusance for anyone trying to box off the backfoot. Margarito could not step onto that backfoot reliably and you'd notice this if you look at fights like the Cintron fight, like the Lujan fight, and other fights.

That's a big if. Considering he not only has to get inside to do damage but he'll have to land enough of them to get the job done.

Throw in Margarito's uppercut for good measure.

Everything is a big if. But you make it seem as if Margarito feels no pain. Margarito's uppercut is not going to be enough to keep Cotto from getting inside occasionally. Cotto has very good foot movement.

And Santos, Williams and Clottey were the toughest fights for Margarito. Now of course you cannot lump in Cotto along with these fighters (he is in fact superior) but what these people have in common is they have the ability to box. Not that I'm implying Cotto can box on the technical level as they do but the main thing is, he can do that to a certain degree and also put the hurting on the opponent to discourage him, which against Margarito they failed to do. Williams was victorious with his boxing but also the fight was as close as it could get as he failed to even put a dent in Tony.

The sparring will help him prepare to expect everything Margarito will do in the ring. It's not like Cotto won't be surprised at anything Margarito will try to do. There's no surprises here. He'll be aware of the relentlessness, the come-forward style basically. All Cotto has to do is be ready for that facet of Margarito's game and if he overcomes that come fight night, you can take that W to the bank.

I'm still failing to grasp this armor plating Margarito fans are seeing on their fighter...

Santos doesn't hit hard? Cintron doesn't hit hard?

Look, Clottey hit Margarito with his sunday punch. Margarito went nowhere. So did Santos, so did Cintron, and so did plenty of other guys. Sure Cotto likes to break down guys but if he ain't putting the juice on the punches Santos or Cintron did he is gonna get swarmed even harder.

Wrong. Sparring does not prepare you for everything. For starters they aren't hitting him near as hard as Margarito will hit him. And often that changes everything.

Think of all the Margarito fights you've seen. Think of all the bombs people have hit him with and he has rarely ever been hurt. Think of all those fights if he did get hurt he got up and won anyways. Now consider that Cotto does NOT have that one punch knockout power. The likelyhood that Cotto can even hurt Margarito to the body is slim. Especially considering it isn't as easy as you all think to hit Margarito's body. He tucks his elbows very well.
