Sounds like a ***** move to me. The fight's within the WW limit and at the weight Cotto's team asked for. What's the problem?

Cotto has fought Mosley, Quintana ( in his first fight at 147 pounds), Margarito, Clottey and you telling me he is scared to put his title on the line vs Pacquiao? Stfu. Stupid people like you don't belong in this boxing forum. For me i say it's a smart move cause if Pacquiao wants to fight a ww then fight a ww at the ww limit for the title. Cotto i think he knows that losing "1pound" will be hard for him.

Cotto team didn't start with the catchweight, it was Pacquiao team pure and simple. Cotto only said if they want a catch weight then fight at 145 pounds.

It gets very messy when belts are taken away at catchweights. He earned it fighting within the limits allowed by the division, he should lose it the same way.

Also, Cotto would obviously prefer to fight without catchweights. He simply said if the only way Pac will fight him is at a catchweight, then 145 is his limit.

    :lol::lol::lol:

^maybe you are right! He doesn't sound confident.

Wether there is a title or not it does not matter.

AS LONG AS YOU WIN over the belt holder!

Cotto is the title holder but if he is beaten badly by PAC.
In paper Cotto is still the champ but in essense who is
    the real champ?!?

There's going to be a war in the ring very soon! :bbb

Agree. If they both want 145 fine it's fair enough. But fighting for a welter title but not being able to have the full weight leeway isn't right. While technically it is a welter fight the weight stipulation creates a new division.

This fight isn't as big as mayweather vs pacman but still doesn't need a belt to hype the fight up. This fight will be a brawl and well worth the ppv cost.

Well like I said . . . negotiation is a negotiation not until the dotted lines are signed.

. . . Cotto doesn't want to pay for the sanctioning fee that's all there is in it.

Fine with me . . . no titles involved. Just fight! :yep

147 is the maximum weight a fighter can weigh to be a welter weight. Thats why everyone is using the word "LIMIT" in their posts. 145 is in the welter weight division.

He would be fighting at 147 as long as he weighs in under the limit. What's the problem with Cotto losing an extra pound? :huh

Only when the catch weight is above the division in which the bout is sanctioned. 145 is below the WW limit, so it's still technically a WW bout. If my memory serves me correctly, Hopkins was contractually obligated to come in a few pounds below 160 for the DLH fight, yet all of the MW titles were still on the line.
