That was their agreement, these things are not set in stone.

It is simply not fair to real WW fighters if they have to fight for the title honoring the 147 limit, and PAC can take the title while bringing the limit down to 145. Like I said, are other WW fighters going to be denied a shot at the title because they can't come below 147 and Pac won't go above 145? Title fights should be done without alterations to the rules of the division. Period.

Actually you're wrong on the fights you comparing to cause Pavlik vs Taylor rematch happen at 166 pounds thats way over the middleweight limit so of course the mw title won't be on the line. Pavlik vs Hopkins was at the catchweight of 170 pounds. <<Again thats way over the mw limit. There was title fights that happen in a catch below their weight limit like De la hoya vs Hopkins for example. But a champion i think don't have to put the title on the line if it's the catch weight below the weight limit. So i got no problem if Cotto don't want this fight to be a title fight if it's not in the ww limit.

Whittaker-Chavez was also catch weight with belts on the line. Like you said anything above 140 is "welter". But I agree with Cotto.

Who cares? Manny is the Pound 4 Pound Champion. I don't think he gives a crap about Cottos ABC title. Titles hasn't mattered in boxing since the 80s anyway. People care more about big money fights than cheap little toys.

Both those fights were above 160. That's why the titles weren't on the line. BTW what were the circumstances surrounding Taylor/Rivera? :huh

I agree with you. It's up to Cotto and Pac to determine the terms of this fight. My point was simply that the catch weight in and of itself does not nullify the obligation of the champ to defend unless it is above the limit of the weight class where the titles are held.

So does everybody agree that if the titles were on the line, and Pac wins, he should be stripped if in the future he refuses to defend them at the WW limit?

Yep. Why should Cotto have to make a concession just to give something else away?

Yes he is undoubtedly the p4p King. He does care about the belt. Because he could be the first 7 division champ in history.

    I can't speak for the rest . . . I do agree.

But realistically it's more logical to think that Pacquiao will give it up as soon as he can if he wins it . . . because he really doesn't intend to stay at 147.

Meh, he's already cemented his status in that department. Another trinket wouldn't matter.

Theirs too many titles in this day and age anyway. Theirs about what four more titles scattered across the division. Pfft no big deal.

The ABC titles has made boxing a joke. If theirs only one title per division as it should be it would mean something.

All that matters to Manny is being the best boxer in his era. He only needs two more fights to do that. Than he's done.

Pac is already great and everything he does after today is icing on the cake. There are definitely way too many titles.
But it doesn't matter in the end. Because being the first and only 7 division champ is still another big accomplishment and would look great in history.

Well than we should just agree to disagree.

I think the title doesn't matter and Manny doesn't give a damn about it anyway. Thats how I feel and I'm sticking to it.
