If the belt was on the line would it hurt the promotion??

Would the promotion be better off with the belt on the line??

Did Sugar Ray Leonard not win the 175 lb title by defeating Lalonde at 168??

    I'm going to bed.

No it won't. Cotto and Pacquiao are big enough names that the fans either are true or casuel don't care if the title is on the line or not. Like i said jeter and kobe talk about cotto vs pacquiao and none of those 2 talk about the title belt will be on the line.

Pac made his terms, only fair that Cotto makes his. No point in putting the title at stake when it isn't gonna be fought at 147 anyway, and I doubt any future defenses (if any) will be held at the proper, mandated weight-- dont want to see a trend where belts are fought for at catchweights.

Is it? Give some examples of where a beltholder fought within the weight limit for his title but the belt wasn't on the line?

Probably Arum's behind this. He knows that Cotto would probably lose. He will tell everybody that Cotto was weight drained... blah... blah... blah. Then there will be a rematch at 147 lbs, with the title on the line. He will ask Pacquiao to try to beat Cotto at his best weight which is 147 lbs. No more catchweight for the rematch. Easy money! :D

It's either you don't understand what you have posted or you are simply trying to twist it. :D

    You yourself posted "welter limit".

The last time I check . . . the welter limit is 141 to 147. That means anybody who fights at 141 to 147 lbs is officially recognized as a fight at welter weight . . . that's simple english and that's what's mandated. :deal

Now the arrangement between Pac and Cotto to weight in at 145 is with the intention of limiting the weight difference at fight time . . . BUT STILL . . . it is within the limit mandated by the rules.

Like what I have already posted I don't care if there's a title on line or none . . . But don't give me the crap that Cotto shouldn't have to lose his belt because he is weighing in at 145.

There are a lot of fights at welter where one of the fighters weigh in less than 147 or sometimes both. I'll give you the most famous and the most remembered ones.

Now next time you quote me . . . be sure you are ready to stand up for your bull****.

Prove to me and everybody else who's reading this thread . . . that I'm wrong.

    I'm waiting. :yep

No most probably not . . . Pac will have to deal with PBF if PBF really wants to fight.

I think 145 lbs is about the right limit for the fight and it should be a great fight.

However Pacman shouldn't be able to win a WW title if the champion isn't allowed to fully utilise the weight division.

If he wants the title then he should allow Cotto to fight at 147lbs, many of you have criticised Cotto because it is only 2lbs, well if it is only 2lbs let Cotto (& Pac if he wants to) utilise those 2 lbs.

It would be a bit sneaky winning a WW title at 145lbs, and would lead to others wanting to fight for it at 141lbs.

I agree the catch weight is fine. And Cotto should be 100%. I just can't blame Cotto for not putting up his belt he won with the full 147 pound limit. I think it's really mind games by the Pac camp, just to give them something extra to have to think about.
Pac should just take it at 147 because I have no doubt he'll beat Cotto at any weight.

The title will add to the sell of the fight. Because everyone knows who Pac is and they know he is the best in the sport. Alot of people know Cotto but I'm not so sure everyone knows where he stands overall in his rankings. The belt on the line will be historic for Pacs 7th weight championship. The smaller man coming up to challenge the larger champion. That little emphasis there could be a selling point to people who don't reagularly tune into boxing.

The fight will be great no matter what. And it will be remembered reguardless. However from a selling point the belt would help.
