He's under no obligation to put his WELTERWEIGHT title on the line for a fight that ISN'T A WELTERWEIGHT fight.

The rules don't magically change because a little filipino is involved.

Never have I heard of such ridiculousness before.

Obviously he won't...but it's not like Cotto can't make a great living fighting ANYONE in MSG. He's a top box office star there...and can nearly guarantee a packed house against anyone.

Sure. And Pac can go fight Marquez for a third time and make peanuts because no one aside from hardcore boxing fans will watch. Or better yet, Witter or Kendall Holt at 140. See where that goes.

The only fight that could bring in non-boxing fans with Pac in it is Mayweather. Even Pac-Mosely wouldn't be a massive event for those outside the boxing world.

Cotto, however, brings a large contingent of Puerto Rican fans and a lot of name recognition, as well as the reputation for being a warrior.

You need two people in the ring for this business, I'm sorry to tell you.

Cotto is just playing the only card he has and it was Arum that was dumb enough to give it to him. But in the end Cotto wont let the WBO strip him and Manny is still in the drivers seat.

if you're a champion, 2 pounds shouldn't make a big difference ... and you should be willing to put your strap up against anyone because you're the champion.

Cotto is showing that he's not confident against Pacquiao and he's just looking to cash in ... now that the fight has been announced he's looking to cause some trouble.

The questions is,why is pac complaining? Cotto isn't making Pac weight in at 147. He's asking for pac to let him keep those 2 extra pounds. If not he'll still fight, but not for the title. You are only looking at this from 1 view point

If you have never boxed or done a sport that requires you to weight in then you wouldn't understand. Cotto doesn't have much fat on him... so where is the weight going to come from??? Water. Pour water into a bag and weight it until it reaches 2 pounds, you will be amazed by how much water is in it. Now that's the amount Cotto has to get out of his body. On top of that he can't rehydrate fully because that 14 pounds limit on fight night will be 2 pounds less.

Then he is fighting at a division not suited for him because he is already draining himself just to make weight right?

Look man, lets say he will make 7 millions. The rumors are the fight will be a 65/35 split. Cotto still has to pay a lot of people and the IRS. Why would Cotto want to lose 200K more???? MAnny wants the belt?????? He is getting more money!! LEt him pay the ****ing 300K!!
Cotto will not gain anything by putting that tittle on the line. He will just waste money. Thats about it. There is no reason to do it. IF he is going to end up with 3 or 4 millions he might as well go and get an easier fight.

Cotto said it long time ago: "I dont need Pacquiao, but if he want to fight me I am here". That doesn't mean he was going to bend over for Manny.

Exactly. Lets put it like this, if Pacquiao wants the belt so damn bad then be the one to pay the sanction fees not Cotto.
