Cotto fighting at 154 is a terrible idea. He should stay at 147 or retire.

I 100% agree, I really think as of right now he is frozen out of the upper tier of the sport. As you said, Floyd and Pac would beat him and I'd bet Shane to beat him now too. 154? Please! Williams and Sergio would eat him up!

I don't think it's that cut and dry especially when you factor in Mandingo's inactivity.

Cotto is also an excellent boxer and Kirkland is a bit green with his boxing skills.

I can make arguments for why either fighter would win the fight in a blowout and I would like to see it.

once he kicks Yuris ass unmercifly all these same mother****ers will be saying how much better Cotto looked at 154.

Why not Cotto living on? as I recall all the reincaranations of Arturo Gatti after geting beatdwon by less talented opponents and yes sometimes there is life at the higher weights we shall see.

I think Foreman is a very winnable fight for Cotto. I mean who has Forman beat that makes it such a clear cut win for him over Cotto, a man that has only lost twice & fought some great names. Cotto will beat him silly.

He'll learn the same way Mosley did when he fought Winky at that weight and hopefully he'll comeback down

Good post, as usual. Although, I do believe there could be some method to the madness..............

What do you think that farewell fight'll be?

He's already said Margo gets no more blood money from him. And I sure as hell don't think he should take on Williams or Martinez.

I'm thinking Cintron. But, just guessing of course.

And that came to a sqrishing hault when he went up to 147 and lost to that Gomez guy from contender.

And Corrales went up and lost to Clottey.

Sometimes going up aint the best thing to do.

Good responses from both sides of the argument so far. I'm still not convinced it's a good move though. I can easily see Cotto dropping a decision to Foreman in much the same way as Erik Morales dropped a decision to Zahir Raheem at a weight too high for him. Cotto, like Morales, was a vastly superior fighter, but when you are above your weight ceiling you can be outboxed. And even if Cotto does scrape past Foreman, really what is the point? If he fights one of the top lightmiddles like Williams or Martinez he will lose, and if he fights some mediocre lightmiddles it will be a sad end to a brilliant career.

Why isn't Arum working harder for a Cotto-Margo rematch?? They are both with Top Rank. And that fight has drama written all over it which would generate tons of revenue. Both are coming off losses. It's ridiculous for Arum to even mention Pac-Margo.

    I think a Cotto-Margo rematch is a great fight.

What makes you convinced Floyd will beat him?

Styles makes fights, boxing skills didnt beat Cotto, it was power and akwardness. In the case of Margo, an iron chin and bricks.

Its debatable who will win the jabbing contest, Cotto has a very good jab. Floyd cant outslug him, Floyd cant run from him as he's very good at cutting the ring off. You could say Floyd will slip punches to the head but how will he do it to the body? People were looking for a bigger Castillo in Hatton, Hatton gave Floyd problems but Cotto is a much bigger better version of Castillo, in fact a lot more so than Hatton.

    He's already beaten 2 top 5 WW's in Mosley & Clottey.

I've seen you touting yourself as some sort of predictions zen Master... and you think Cotto would have a chance at beating Floyd Mayweather?? :patsch It would be funny if it wasn't so demoralizingly idiotic.

No you're absolutely right, Cotto is a natural welterweight who isn't even guaranteed to beat Foreman if he's taken lightly. He's shot.
