Daniel Geale (31-3, 16KOs) became the frontrunner to face WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) on June 6th in New York City. A deal has apparently been completed, according to a report by El Vocero. Cornelius 'K9' Bundrage and Jorge Sebastian Heiland were the other two candidates in the running.

The paper reports that Cotto's next fight, televised by HBO, will head to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Cotto's New York career has been built at the rival venue, Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, but the fighter is making some changes. Earlier this year he signed a multi-fight promotional agreement with Roc Nation Sport.

The paper says a press conference will take place next Wednesday at Barclays to announce the fight. Geale was knocked out by middleweight king Gennady Golovkin but later bounced back with a decision win over Jarrod Fletcher to close out 2014.

Well, there goes all that crazy heat-of-the-moment talk of Cotto being a "coward ducker" who will "never fight a real Middleweight ever again" and all that stuff we've put up with since he dethroned Sergio in the big upset...

Crickets...? Cotto's future at Middleweight has been one of the hottest subjects of the past 10 months! Aren't you guys happy he's facing a ranked MW?

Either way it's a good fight but Geale hasn't had the same standing in the division since Darren Barker upset him and took his title (that was a great fight). I'm a huge Geale fan but I could see him having trouble with Cotto's jab and the hooks in exchanges.

    Damn

I hoped he'd fight Heiland but this fight is acceptable too in my opinion

Wasn't one of Geales best performances but i thought he still beat Barker, he also shouldve beat Mundine in their first match so his only loss really is the GGG flogging

Geale will give Cotto a few problems with the size difference

If it's actually Geale I would favor him to take the belt from Cotto.

It was a great fight. I've long "repped" Geale on this forum as he was very underrated on here for years but I must say that Barker won that fight in my mind.

I rewatched Geale vs. Mundine I about a year or year and a half ago. I had it a Draw or Geale by 1 point maybe if I remember correctly.

Draw would have been fair for both fights, really. I can vibe with the idea that his only clear loss by more than 1 point was Golovkin.

An acceptable fight if its not at a catchweight, he will have to step it up after Geale though. Don't want to see him hold the belt hostage

Forget the politics involved for a bit, gents. This is a good fight, and one Mr. Geale will win.

That's a good for Cotto considering he's been off for a year; especially if he fights Alvarez next. I don't believe they'll be able to pull that fight off for September like GBP wants though.

    Shut up.

Golvkin WASTED Geale, so how is he deserving of a shot?

Cotto wants NOTHING to do with GGG.

I already read that rumor @156... would be complete nonsense if it was.

I had Geale losing a close fight vs Barker and had him drawing with Strum iirc

    Why are you mad?

Geale is one of 2 B-level victories that Golovkin has. Golovkin just fought him less than a year ago.

I wouldn't be talking Geale down if I were an agenda-driver like you... He's sort of one of two fighters that give Golovkin a respectable titlist legacy to any degree.
