People often overlook how hard miguel punches. Just reading the forums and noticed that people seem to think cotto doesnt punch very hard and that somehow clottey gassed when according to punchstat (debateable) clottey wasnt hit with many shots. You would think it would take more than that to stop an iron chinned phenom like clottey. I decided to make a vid showing just one punch and how it possibly altered the entire fight.

Clottey had this at the back of his mind and i believe its the reason why he didnt recklessly pursue miguel in the championship rounds. Even clottey admitted that the reason why he didnt throw more punches at the end was because he didnt want to give cotto the oppurtunity to land shots on him. Bottom line is that clottey didnt want to fully exchange with cotto and get his punch numbers up to the 80-90 mark because he was aware of being tagged hard.

My suspicions of margarito's handwraps are further raised by the state of cottos face at the end of this fight. Although cotto wasnt hit with as much as he was in that fight, his face was nowhere near as swollen.

Finally do people honestly believe pacquiao would be able to take shots like these from miguel. Look at the two guys, both display handspeed, power and strong chins not to mention technical skills. I know manny is a special fighter but some of the threads on here would have you believe cotto would be an easy UD or even late TKO for pac. Pacquiao would be a huge underdog in a fight with miguel if its at 147.

I have never seen anyone question Cotto's punching power?

People also forget that elite fighters spend months on end preparing for a title fight, the dont just gas on the biggest stage, usually the opponent does something to change their gameplan.

He felt the power alright, nobody would expect any less. What some didn't expect was him coming back at Cotto...

I wouldn't say Clottey was especially "hurt" there, in boxing terms. Sure he was stunned, that can happen 10-15 times any fight regardless of how good a chin is but his legs are firmly underneath him with no last effects.

    Cotto definitely punches hard.

It seemed to me that Clottey was stunned on two or three different occassions in round six. Ironically, Cotto's punches didn't seem as heavy or flow as fluidly as before to me.

Anyone remember the slow-mo between rounds after I think the 10th, where they tried to say Clottey was blocking everything Cotto threw? I swear it looked like the entire flurry landed.

If Clottey wasn't stunned in the sixth, that was the worst rope-a-dope I've ever seen.

Clottey isn't the steel jawed phenom that some make him out to be. Baldomir (an average puncher at best) hurt him prety badly with a single left hook, Margo had him prety hurt on at least one occassion in their fight where he was pounding the **** out of Joshua on the ropes, and even Judah seemed to stun him with some hard left hands forcing him to back up against the ropes a couple of times.

And in the Cotto fight Clottey was clearly rocked by a good left hook and that's why he backed up and allowed Miguel too tee off on him for the majority of the 6th round.

Overall a good chin I'd say, but it's still dentable just like very other fighter's chin. The real thing he's got on most fighters is the fact that doesn't get decked too cleanly with big shots because he hold his hands up high and tight. Very solid guard by Clottey.
