I had it a near shutout but lets just say my coverage of boxnation was a bit shaky, I saw Cotto being backed up a lot but shooting back and countering effectively. He boxed beautifully as far as i could see, cant wait to watch the replay

The answer for Cotto not having a disfigured face lies in the difference in the ammount of connects from that fight to today.

........and if Cotto did'nt feel Margarito's punches, why was he in full retreat for major portions of the fight.
A fighter does'nt retreat like that for no reason.

If you feel a fighters punching power and you have the skills to box on the backfoot, you retreat.
If Cotto had no respect for Margarito's punching power, he'd have attacked Margarito as he's done so often against other opponents.

I have not watched the full fight yet, ive only seen a bit of action here and there but it simply sounds as if Cotto was able to make the adjustments and avoid trading with Margo, sounds as if the fight played out exactly how i thought it would.

Agreed, IMO the only way for Cotto to know for certain of Margo's punches would have been to fight him like he did the first time, and get hit as many times and see if he breaks down again. I think Cotto didn't wanna risk it, he believes Margo loaded in the first fight but if there was a chance he didn't, would have been a repeat of the first fight had he fought him the same way.

cotto was trading as early as 2nd round of 1st fight. here, he was constantly moving. he traded for short periods but he was wary of margos shots, when not punching, he was either covering his face/defending or moving.

margo didnt land significant/solid shot the whole fight. mainly because of cottos constant movement and/or his lack of right hands thrown prolly because he was favoring his right eye against jabs/counters.

at later rounds, as he start to tire, cotto started clinching/holding (WHICH WAS TOTALLY ABSENT THE FIRST FIGHT) to stop margo's offense, all the while taking his own breathers. this afforded him enough time to box margo the rest of the round. this pattern continued for 2-3 rounds i think until the stoppage.

i think this plaster thing is just blown out of proportion. margo landed 1 shot at pac and it almost ended the fight, if not for pac's conditioning.

plaster or no plaster, cotto could have won both fights had he not tried to engaged margo the first time around. without the eye problem, it would a closer fight but clear majority for cotto.

however, you can also argue, 1 shot like margo landed on pac can alter the fight pretty quickly. the eye made it a one-sided shutout, topped by a weird stoppage.
