Clottey clearly outlanded Cotto. Even those late rounds, people made a big deal about Cotto being evasive and all that but he landed **** all on Clottey.
I would give you the benefit of the clottey fight because the fight was very close but the mosley fight although close was clear the Cottto won. Still Cotto is better than Clottey, Cotto was cut, had the worst trainers in the ring and was comming of a devastating loss to a cheat ******* and still beat and elite like Clottey, so that prove a lot.
The Mosley fight was a hell of a lot closer than the clottey fight. Clottey gave the fight away by just stopping after landing a barrage of punches. Mosley-Cotto was damn close, draw in my book but i think i gave it to Mosley by a round, I'd have to re-watch. As far as teh Clottey fight, Cotto didnt win it, Clottey Lost it, gave it away, simple as that.
I had Mosley and Clottey beating him but each fight is different and they are huge WWs, Pac currently is a medium-small 140lber
I remember having a discussion with friends regarding the Clottey fight...it seemed as if Clotty played the roll of agressor but fail to attack because of Cotto's counter punching abilities. Clotty even admitted this flaw in the post fight, walking forward throwing sporadic combos and covering up does not count for effective agression. Since I have the fight recorded I sometimes view the final rd as an example. During the first 15 seconds of the round Clotty chases after Cotto with wild right hands and Cotto counters him with a short left jab off the ropes and nearly drops him yet again after that Clotty becomes the shell again chasing Cotto seemingly looking like the "agressor" to the untrained eye. I can't knock anyone for thinking Josh won the fight, we are all entitled to our own opinions but I'll stck with the opinions of myself and several other ex pros that I know and train with. The better fighter was awarded the win that night but again I can see how some individuals would have think otherwise.
I scored the Clottey-Cotto fight for Clottey, he won it so clearly that the robbery hurt me a litte, but what do you expect from a fight in MSG with a Puerto Rican fighter vs. an African. I really find that it is impossible to give Cotto more than 5 rounds in the fight, which mean it could only be a draw at best for Cotto, other than that Clottey outclassed him badly. I have Cotto the 1st round because of the KD, 6th round, and I believe the 11th round, I could have gave him one more but I don't remember. I scored it 9-3 or 8-4 In Clottey's favor. I agree with the thread starter to an extent, I would give Cotto the close close fight against Shane, so his record in his last 5 fights would be 3 -2, but he is coming off losing 2 championship fights, barring the Jennings ****. The bad thing for Manny is this though, the two guys he lost to were huge WWs, Manny at his best probably belongs at Jr. WW, so he is fighting way too high, he is going to get hurt to the body, the balls, and then the head.
