Throughout the years cotto has been 1 of the best all time action fighters of the last 20 years, and one of the biggest stars in boxing. He has fought in many wars, and has fought in many technically superb boxing matches and was never in a bad fight EVER!

The margarita loss will always be a questionable defeat on his record, and will always be the one fight where fight fans look to, to say what if? What if Margarito wouldn't have used plaster? Would Cotto have had a better career? Could have been, but nevertheless Cotto will go down as a Hall Of Famer and one of the 4 top cash cows in boxing over the last 10 years...

Great career from cotto, but tonite he fought a fighter who had a chip on his shoulder with something to prove. Ali's chances of winning this fight was predicated on his loss to Jessie Vargas a guy who wasn't known for his KO POWER.. But if you're a true fan you know all fights are different. Cotto though favored and still looked at as a fighter with enough left in the tank, wasn't going to run over a guy like Ali.

Ali though the perceived smaller guy was actually the bigger guy in the fight, and it showed from the first bell. Ali was definitely fighting at his most natural weight, and put up the fight of his life here. Mixed in boxing with slugging and rocked cotto multiple times, while making small adjustments here and there.

This was a clear example of a great fighter passing the torch to a younger fighter who likely surpassed his own expectations, and these are the type of fighters who are great for boxing. Now the 154 pound division is again interesting with younger fresher talent who want to face the best and make their mark in boxing!!

    What a night!

    Justice Served.:ARMS1: Karma's a real mother****er.:deal:

Martinez badly in need of a soft touch, since he'd just gotten off crutches, ducked GGG for what he thought was a cherry pick, gets brutally and sadly... embarrassingly retired. It was such a sad way for a dignified good guy to go out. But hey... at least he got retired by an ATG HoF.

Cotto The Pink Diva who micromanaged and took calculated risks, and seemed to go out of his way to seek out the injured, shot or past it fighters, to prey upon, like the vampire he is, instead of going out in badass manly fashion, and going through with the rumored Lemieux or Golovkin fight, which had many fans salivating. Decided to go with in his mind, the easiest cherry pick in the vicinity of the division. A man who got KTFO brutally by a featherfist in Jessie Vargas, and got manhandled and needed a gift against Johan Perez, who Herrera beat easily, and who got KTFO badly by a featherduster like Mikhaylenko.

And what happened? Cotto's muscle tore (HOW IRONIC:lol:), and he not only lost to what most people think of as a glass jawed bum, but got rocked to his core countless times and was backpedaling like Ali was GGG.

    Goddamn!!! How embarrassing... Perfect Ending!!!:risas3:

For all those people who said Cotto would KO Lemieux and Golovkin, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Cotto didn't have a glass chin like Khan, but he had a suspect chin. That's what made him a better fighter for me, because he would fight his way through the jelly leg moments to get that food on his families table without caring about what people say or think of him.

    Head down warrior, top man.

I'll be honest but I thought that Cotto would be going out in style with a seemingly hand picked opponent and I was going to put a big bet on Cotto but fortunately for me the odds were so unbelievably short in Cotto's favour that I didn't bother.

The online firm that I normally use had a Cotto win at 1/16. Would have needed a fortune just for any decent returns.

Sure he is... To bounce back and make history as a 4 division world champion after brutal defeats by Margarito* and Pacquaio is truly remarkable.. Traits of a great fighter no doubt.

cotto was never the best in any division
there are so many belts that it's incredibly misleading to use them to bolster a fighter's achievements in this sport

he was the best at 140 when he had a belt, and its highly arguable he was the best at 147 in "07" when Floyd retired as well...

he was always in the mix for big fights but Floyd and pacman were the only great fighters in and around the divisions cotto was fighting
great is an overused term in my opinion, especially in boxing for the reasons I mentioned before. I just don't see how cotto can be seen as remotely 'great' considering he was always in the 'best of the rest' bracket

Its really no dent in his legacy losing to 3 of the top guys of the last 8 years imo in Pac, Floyd and Canelo... He had a great career.
