IN the 9th round when Pac was really peppering Cotto with punches, Jim Lampley said: WTF is a high quality individual?? Does he mean in terms of looks? Lampley also said during Pac-DLH: Lampley sometimes just flat out sound gay.
The best is when Lampley was talking about Juan Diaz's marketability and he said "he's physically attractive".
He's saying that Cotto is a good person, and there's no joy in watching him get beaten beyond purpose.
so... if it was someone other boxer... would there be joy in watching them get beaten beyond purpose?
You need to understand Lampley's job is not talking to you. He is talking to everyone watching. Oscar De la Hoya is the person responsable for the amounts of money welterweights are making today. Way before Floyd or Manny, Oscar attracted people to the sport. People who has never watch boxing before. Many of them women that were attractd to Oscar. Regarding to Cotto, Lampley is right again. He know Cotto was there just trying to finish the fight standing. that takes a lot of balls. Plus, the way he went to congratulate Manny after the fight is also a sign of a high quality individual
High quality individual just mean he aint gonna quit in there despite being beat like a wild dog. His corner should pull him out to save his health for his future. I think the oscar quote was appropriate considering a significant proportion of Oscars fanbase was because of his looks. For me the oscar fight shows just how much of a tough ******* that guy is. Cotto was being rocked and dropped in their fight but oscar what having pin point bombs dropped on him.
Lampley is just a glorified chearleader,if it wasnt for Merchant i would watch all the main HBO fights with no sound.
But LAmpley is right again. Even if I don't like that kind of comment. Physically attractive is very important for TV. Women like watching attractive guys. And wherever women go, men follow and spend a lot of money. Is Marketing 101 my friends
So true. Tito, Mosley, Floyd, Pacquaio all became water cooler talk after they fought De La Hoya. Before those fights most average folk didn't know who the fark these carnts were. And even Hopkins got his first taste of mainstream fame by beating the guy who became famous for making Oscar run like a *****. These guys owe Oscar alot for the money they've been able to make from Boxing.
try to be objective rather than judgmental....its bad form to label fighters "running like a *****" when you dont really believe that anyway and they've shown more balls than most fighters before them. do you really think oscar 'ran like a *****' or do you think he ran out of steam against tito like he has several times?
Well, I guess that a way to see it. But I don't see it that way. Those guys you mention are or were very good fighters too. But De la Hoya had the looks to sell.
