Good post. Cotto is a warrior. I was cheering for Manny the entire fight but Cotto is a great guy and an asset to the sport. Whoever the hell think it is stupid to back up when you are getting punched consistently in the face doesn't know the sport of boxing. The person who started this thread knows nothing about the sport and has never boxed.
90% of the time, warrior simply means no boxing ability However, for even how mediocre I think Cotto is, he does take ass whippings like a champ.
Cotto USED to be a warrior but he's been a lot more of a calculated fighter who weighs risk vs reward. I don't get the sense that he's willing to let it all hang out to get a win. If Cotto was a "warrior" against Pacman, he would've been stopped around round 7. But he chose to run and pick his spots. I.e. calculated boxer. He did the same against Clottey. He chose his spots. He did enough to win but he just doesn't let it all hang out like he used too. He showed tons of heart though. Cotto's skill level is high enough where he doesn't have too be a "warrior" to win. And that's been his style of late. He was boxing Margarito for the most part. Now, a "warrior" is a guy like Katsidis or Diaz.
Cotto is 98437659843276598324765928437654329876 times the warrior those on here detracting him are. If you can't see the toughness and heart of Cotto from his career then you're a spastic.
Clottey fight, he could have easily just said "I can't go on," and got an easy win. But no, he decided to win the right way. Margo fight, yeah he took a knee, but did he give up? No.... his corner stopped it. Pac fight, he was getting a ****ing beating. Yeah he was "running," BUT he was in there. Didn't stop until the ref stopped it.
Yeah, showing heart is different from being a warrior I think. Showing heart or courage is a fighter refusing to give up and trying to win to the very end despite being beat down. That was exactly what Cotto is doing I think, trying to win despite being bruised, cut-up, and battered by Pacquiao. And damn, that is an incredibly admirable thing to see... A warrior will just engage and engage and basically say "f*ck it, I'm gonna go down swinging!" (again, like Morales in the 3rd fight with Pac)
The first half of the fight Cotto showed he was a warrior. Going toe to toe. After the 7th round he was done and changed his strategy which didnt work either.
A "Warrior" is a badass mercenary or soldier who fights with a SWORD, shield and armor. Warrior's chop peoples heads off. So Cotto is not a "warrior" Not even close.
