Does anyone remember the interview he gave when he said that he took the fight because they offered him a great deal and his has to think about his children and family? That right there tells me that he took the fight solely for monetary reasons. He knows that he is a heavy underdog and his chances of winning are slim to none. He's NOT going to outbox Floyd. His only option is to try and land something solid then go on full animalistic attack mode in hopes of scoring a KO. Even then he will have very little success given Floyd's masterful defense. I'll even make a prediction and say that if he loses this fight in embarrasing fashion that he'll call it a career. To my understanding, he owns around 10 gas stations throughout PR and is making around $15mil for this fight. If invested correctly, he can live very comfortable for the rest of his life.

    Your thoughts?

He wouldn't win against FMJ at this point of his career regardless of his reasons for accepting the fight.

He took the fight because he has nothing to loose and everything to gain.

    Highest payday
Gets a chance at the undefeated pvp and p4p king
Odds are all against him to win, can only get better

So are you saying he should have "ducked' the match up?

Even if he loses, he can be satisfied that it was his only "true loss" so far.

its the fight he has earned. by beating margacheato he proved that there was massive foul play in the first fight. its a perfect opponent for mayweather at this time given the pacquiao issues in regards to making that mega fight. He will come out victorious here on may 5th!!! war cotto!

What are you smoking. You don't need a reason to take a fight with moneymakers like Mayweather and Pacquiao. You just take it.

[quotehe took the fight solely for monetary reasons.
][/quote]Is it me or do some of these people still think that boxers fight for reasons other than money and the chance to make more money

He took a career high pay day and thinks he can win, how is that cashing out?

Even losing to Mayweather shouldn't seriously hurt his career, Cotto is arguably the 3rd biggest American draw in the sport today.

Yes but the reward has to outweight the risk. Do you think Cotto would have taken the challenge had he been offered something like $3mil? He's making enough off of this fight to call it a career if he takes a serious beating.

Why would he accept $3M for this fight when he's been getting paid $5M+ for his PPV fights?

Ok. Lets say $5mil then. Do you think he still would have taken it? I'm not saying that he's gonna lay down for Floyd and collect a paycheck at the end of the night. He will try his best to be victorious. What I'm saying is, deep down inside he must know that his chances are very slim and he has accepted that due to the large monetary reward he will be receiving. In this case, the reward outweighs the risk for him and he's willing to take it. I do think he will call it a career if he gets destroyed though.

Why would he accept $5M to fight Mayweather when he got $5M to fight Margarito? Cotto played this pretty well. He had the two biggest draws in the sport bidding for his services and he took the best deal. I'm not Cotto, so I can't say how he really feels in regards to his chances in this fight. What I will say, is that whether he's 100% sure he will win, or not very confident that he'll win, there's no way he would've taken short money to fight Mayweather. That would make zero business sense.
