Regarding the lost legs thing: Do you lose your legs from punishment?

Regarding he can't beat the best anymore: Is Manny Steward the smartest man in the world? How is his opinion more valuable than yours or mine? He trained champs, sure, how do you know you or I couldn't have had we chosen to be trainers?

Regarding the commisioner deciding: What in the world has that got to do with anything? Do you and I have to be commisioners do discuss a matter that he makes a decision on?? I don't follow.

 

Manny's opinion is more valuable than yours simple because that man trains Cotto every single day. That was a stupid question.

 

How about this, you don't trust anyone rather think for yourself?

Also, I'd love to hear what evidence you have (and Manny S's opinion is not evidence) of him being damaged goods. What exactly do you see in him that makes you say he is damaged goods?

 

Does intelligence figure into the value of someone's opinion? Would you take Manny's opinion over Einstein's on the matter (if E was a fight fan) because E doesn't see Cotto train(not suggesting I'm intelligent or anything, merely making a point)?

I see Cotto fight, that's enough.

 

Cotto has had more than his fair share of wars. Margo, Pac, Clottey, Torres. But none more so than a load of other fighters, practically every current Mexican for example.

I wouldn't want to see him fight on more than another 2 years, or 3-4 fights depending on how they go. But in the Mayorga fight I honestly thought Cotto looked great. He boxed well controlling most of it with his jab, he used his right hand occasionally with good effect, he stayed off the ropes, he worked the body well and he avoided toe to toe engagements for the most part.

I don't know about his legs not being the same, Steward obviously knows more than myself, but I thought his foot work was much improved, allowing him to always be in balance for a counter-punch. His reflexes looked alright too.

My only concern is he is still a sucker for the right hand over the top and for uppercuts, and his movement slowed by round 8, suggesting he's still only a 10 round fighter.

But as I say, don't hang around too long Cotto, you're in the twilight of your career.

Calling Cotto "delusional" and playing up the religious angle are just weak business ploys to draw attention to the author. Guy has no integrity.

 

I agree Cotto looked like **** and Im a big fan, but the article above is exagerating Cotto isnt slurring or punchdrunk yet, buts what team Cotto needs to realize is the end is near and if Cotto gets past Margo they must match him intelligently and get him the highest price with the minimum risk type scraps and in reality he has maybe 2 or at best three scraps left say he beats Margo and thats a big if,fight Chavez Jr and then cash out vs Martinez in a bout I give Cotto 0 chnace of winning but would be a nice payday and then call it quits. Should he lose or take too much punishment in anyfight prior to Martinez I would call it quits and I would have the towel at the ready vs Martinez
to ensure the beatdown isnt bad.

 

Cotto just fought and knocked out a guy who had taken more beatings than he has.


I think it's a mistake for Cotto to take another big fighter after this one. He needs another stay-busy fight. Something he can train lightly for.

I say make Cotto vs Wolak, make Margo vs Martirosyan on the undercard. The if they both win, put em in together.


Fighters can come back from beatings or knockouts. It happens all the time.

 

Even Cotto acknowledges that the end is near. I think he will seriously think about retiring once he fights Margo so I would say he has 2-3 fights left tops. He has had a good career.

 

Funny how nobody is calling for Margo to retire.

 

Cotto's well past his prime and not what he once was, but he's still a good fighter. His reflexes are slowed and he doesn't have the crispness/sharpness he used to, but I don't know about the slurred speech part. Just not a fan of the way that article was written. It's unprofessional and lacking in journalistic integrity imo. Don't really have any respect for the guy who wrote it (if it is actually a real article).

Cotto vs Pac wasn't the worst beating i've seen at all...Margarito vs Pac tops that. All in all, I think there are a handful of fighters who need to be protected from themselves before Cotto.

:nono are you serious? He look real good vs mayorga. Yeah mayorga is old but cotto was very discipline in that fight. His footwork was great and he avoided many of mayorga's punches.
