Cotto is doomed. This isn't the same Cotto we've seen 3 years ago.

    Think back.
At one time Cotto was a killer in the ring.
He came forward, walked fighters down, cut the ring and destroyed them with body work.

Look at the Zab Judah fight.
    Look at the Quintana fight.
    See the Malinaggi fight.
Shades of his former self can be seen in the Mosley fight.......which I believe was the beginning of the end for Cotto.

No longer is Cotto a fighter who seeks and destroy's.
Against top tier fighters he becomes a runner the second half of the fight......thus abandoning everything that got him to the upper eschelon of boxing.

Cotto looked slow and sluggish last night.........the speed just wasn't there.

Now people are raising hell for a Mosley Rematch, or a Margarito Rematch.........OR a fight with Pacquaio.

In my opinion, unless something changes and Cotto is able to become the fighter he once was...........He's being set up for failure.

He did look different last night from the Cotto of 2007 (Urkal, Judah, Mosley) but i think it had to do with the cut and the style that Clottey brings to his fights. I still want to see him take a relatively easier fight than going for Mosley, Pac, or Floyd. A fight with Berto could be good to see if he is that monster from before. I honestly believe had it not been for the cut, Cotto would have dominated Clottey better and winning a clear decision.

Actually if you notice he adjusts depending on who hes fighting. You will not see Cotto dominating as 3 years ago because he is taking harder fights. Nobody wanted to fight Clottey, but Cotto did. Clottey is a tough SOB and it merited a different fight plan after the nasty cut. I wouldn't go as far as saying he is doomed. Any fighter that thinks that Cotto is doomed or underrates him is bound for failure.

Cotto is a versatile fighter who is no longer fighting 'decent' competition, but world class fighters. Hence Cotto fighting differently depending on who he's fighting. Mosley, Margarito and Clottey are solid fighters. If he fought anyone of these guys like he fought Malignaggi, Quintana, etc, he'd be worse off than he is. The whole reason he made it to where he is, can be credited to his versatility. Cotto needs to use a lot more of his skills at the level he's fighting.

I don't think Cotto is slipping.......we'll have to wait and see.

yeah, i think if cotto had faced urkal last night he would not have taken a backwards step.

    depends on the opponent

I saw a slower Cotto than ever last night. He was being beat to the punch by Clottey who's not lightning quick either which leads me to believe Mayweather and Pacquaio would beat him because they would have too much speed for him combined with their great footwork and ring smarts

I actually disagree completely. I thought Cotto looked every bit as good, if not improved.

Cotto is one of these fighters who we've watched get so much better over the years. He's visibly improved with each fight.

I thought he did exactly what he needed to do considering he was obviously very bothered with the cut. But he held it together and pulled it out where it counts.

That being said, Cotto has an issue in many fights I've seen, where he almost always takes a break around the 5th round, and then again in the 9th. It's just a habit he seems to have.

Bare in mind the ***** fought with basicly one eye and still beat Clottey. Imagine if he didn't have the 3inch cut over is eye...

Very good points, people. Nobody should forget that Clottey is rarely hurt in a fight and is a very-very tough opponent, and of course a pretty darn good fighter. Whoever thought Clottey would be a piece of cake for Cotto doesn't know his boxing. Cotto showed a lot of heart in there, and to me he got the decision exactly for that.

In addition, Clottey had it coming. In rounds 9, 10 and 12 he could have put the win in the bag, everything favoured him (momentum, Cotto's cut, plus he had got his legs back), but still he failed to pressure his opponent effectively. Hell, he knew he needed to win the last round and he couldn't get a decent shot in against a one-eyed, tired Cotto.

Overall, a very close and hard fought win for Cotto, that helped his mentality a great deal for future fights.

PS1: The judge that had it 116-111 should be sent to prison.

PS2: Whasup Georgie my man. ;)

My impression is that Cotto has lost a step and that Mosley, Pacman, PBF and Williams would beat him now.

:good I agree for the most part. Who knows what was going through Cotto's mind when he got that cut and Clottey started getting to him more and more in the middle of the fight; he could have had flashbacks of the Margarito fight. For all we know, Cotto shook off some demons last night. Cotto's previous fight against Jennings didn't answer too many questions.

Now if he would only clinch once in awhile. :yep

thank you,the man fought with a very bad cut that impaired his vision and still managed to do enough to win a very close fight.if that cut didnt happen we wouldnt be talkin about how close this fight was.cotto showed he can hurt clottey with that left hook upstairs that buckled clottey in the 12th round.rematch=cotto by wide decision or tko
