Cotto Is Not The Same Since Margarito??

About 70% of the people on here favored Cotto.

 

I mean, it's hard to say. he dismantled jennings so you can't really gauge it. jennings posed no threat whatsoever. on the subject of clottey, lets really consider who joshua clottey is. he's been one of the top welterweights for years. his skill, conditioning, and defense are in the elite category in today's welterweight landscape. it's asking alot of cotto to dominate a guy like clottey. he's not oktay urkal, and he damn sure aint alfonso gomez. you only have two fights to judge the whole "is cotto the same post-margarito?" question. the jennings fight is a moot point because cotto stalked and murdered him. clottey is an elite welterweight who can easily make junior middleweight, you have to expect that cotto would have some serious difficulty. take a chill pill because the question is sort of invalid. not enough evidence. it's the equivalent of asking if a fighter is gonna be an all time great after just two professional bouts.

 

Not me, I thought that was a good win against a tough fighter that presented Coto with many stylistic problems. I personally scored the fight for Clottey. It was a good win for Cotto no less.

 

cottos problem its more mental than phisical is hard to meassure cotto base on his last fights whit jennings he looked kind of doubtfull in the begening of the fight but after he start hurting jennings he looked fine,and the fight whit clotey he was cut for most of the fight but hes resilince was always there he didnt quit he kept fighting the all 12 rds imo cotto looks ready and motivated i have a feeling cotto is going to stop manny

 

Thats because Margo is a slow plodding fighter that is wide open for an offensive onslaught. Plain and simple. He cant look the same in every fight just like any other fighter, he has to adjust sometimes to win.

Look how fast he looked against Jennings, he took him easy. However,
Clottey is a battletank with armor. Stick and move on a fighter like that.
Not all his wins will be impressive. Which fighter is dominant in every fight?

 

To be fair to Cotto, Margo would've smashed him in 5 rounds if Cotto had not fought off the back foot so much. Clottey may have battered him even worse had Cotto stood toe to toe with him. If Cotto doesn't assert himself vs. Pac, that's a problem.

 

Im just baffled by some of Manny's fan who just think that one the Margarito fight is still affecting him and two they are acting if the fight with Clotty showed some sort of weakness in Miguel when Clotty is one of the toughest opponents anyone could fight north of 140 ..

 

Cotto's the same. He's just fighting 147 pounders instead of 140.

I thought Cotto looked slow against Jennings and fast against Gomez. Granted Jennings was on his bicycle before eventually being caught and Gomez stood in front of Cotto and thus was an easy target, but Cotto still looked a little slow and off balanced with his footwork against Jennings compared to his other fights.

 

Definitely is different.

 

I don't think he will ever be the same mentally. After a loss like that, it must be very difficult for a boxer. You could see it in his celebrations after the first round with Jennings.

The Clottey fight leaves some unanswered questions. Cotto had a bad cut and the fight was very close, but Clottey is a tough guy to fight.

The key to the fight is whether Manny's speed and power can keep Cotto at bay. If Cotto can get to Manny, I think it is all over. However, if Manny can box and keep Cotto off him for 12 rounds, he should get a decision.

 

So Margarito beat the speed out of Cotto?
