my question for you nae sayers is .... why not put the strap on the line? ... why vacate it if you are forced to put it on the line?

You have no leverage at all win or lose ...

    please explain_

This is not a true 147 pound championship fight. Only Pac's fans think it is.

    Rubbish.

The belt doesn't make the fight nor the fighter.

In a true fight for a title, there are no major concessions. The contracted weight of 145 is a major concession for a champ to agree to. Cotto coming in at 145 is a concession/agreement, which makes this fight a non-title fight in the fans eyes. Let the champion come in at his own weight at the ww limit instead of the 'draw' Emmanuel Dapidran wanting/dictating concessions, and you have a true title fight.

I think its BS that he dont want to have the WBO belt on the line, hes just admiting he thinks he might lose or that belt would at stake and there would be no issues with this fight.

Champions care about their titles whether you think they shouldn't. Fighters love walking into the ring with their titles. We can't call all titles bogus, just their organizations.

Cotto should be allowed to say he doesn't want his title on the line if he can't come in at 147. He is fighting Pac already, so to think that he is scared, or that he just doesn't want to lose his title, when he can't come in at 147 is 'hell a funny'.

And does anyone remember when Sugar Ray Leonard at catch weight fight where it was for the super middleweight title and the light Heavyweight titles ? So just cause its a catch weight dont mean the title should not be on the line.

Nobody saw Sugar as the LHW champion after he beat Lalonde. Lalonde wanted a big money fight, and agreed to everything Sugar asked.

And Sugar weighed in for that fight waring all his clothes and still only weighed 165lbs, so he gave up a lot in that fight too, but we are only talking about 2 lbs in this fight, not 7lbs, I think Cotto should stop crying over the 3 pound and put his title on the line as hes facing the P4P Best fighter in the world and you have to give up a little something if you want a chance to win big.
