His skills are absolutely superb... I don't know how anyone could percieve him to be a crude puncher.

The guy can fight inside and outside, both at an elite level. Not only this, but he is one of the few fighters in the sport who can GENUINELY fight just as well out of either stance.

Brilliant fight, the skill differential between that and the Marg v Cintron fight was IMMEDIATELY apparant.

Cotto just toyed with him. Cotto is a brilliant fighter no question, Mayweather is in big big trouble should this fight come off.

Obviously Gomez is limited in the big scheme of things, but Cotto showed tonight that he is truely one of the 5 best fighters in the sport, with his skills and dominance.

He can lead and counter punch. His accuracy is insane. The more active he is the more lethal he is. Cotto at welterweight is a monster. This guy is scary.

I have to admit, I thought during his 140 pound days he was overrated, going life and death with Torres. But he is a very intelligent fighter, he seems to know what he needs to do in order to win. He is always focused and in great condition.

He didnt pressure as much, he let Gomez do that and smashed him at will, and he was thowing from different angles in there too with his switch hitting.

This fight was cringeworthy to watch, like watching a slow but painful torture, not for Gomez's lack of skills but more for Cotto's masterclass. Ok, Gomez's punches were pitter patter and he was hardly a notable opponent, but the gulf in class was immense. Cotto demonstrated speed, power, fighting on inside, outside, not to mention a powerful jab.

Welter Cotto is much better than light welter Cotto, who was already at least B+. :nod

Cotto is a great fighter but Gomez was no Mosley or FMJ. I'd rather judge him on the Mosley fight...which he scraped through.

Cotto was brilliant.. I have seen anybody so well-rounded and with such accuracy like him in a while.. Cotto barely put any pressure on Gomez, danced around the ring here and then, and let some of the rounds go instead of going for the attack because he knew he was gonna' win this fight no doubt.. Cotto and Mayweather may have a similiarity in boxing style, but Cotto looks more impressive to me..

Maybe he is. I would have said this about Chad Dawson, before tonight, but his defense against Johnson left me unsatisfied. At thesame time, Gomez was a total mismatch and not a big test at all. I would reserve this judgment after Marguarito. If he wins against the version of Marg. we saw tonight, I will give Cotto this distinction.

I think Mayweather is silly allowing Cotto more time before taking the fight. Cotto is going to keep getting better and better, as he continues to develop as a fighter.

In comparison, Mayweather is going to decline more and more with age, and inactivity.

Gomez is no slouch. He's not anywhere near elite, but he's still no slouch. He had never been down in a fight let alone stopped and Cotto did that tonight. Cotto made this a sparring session.
