Where does he go from here?
    He's definitely not a middleweight.
Was outboxed by Trout who is a 10th best 154
Lara, Charlos, Andrade, and Williams make easy work of Cotto.
    Can Cotto beat Vanes Martirosyan?
    Cotto can't make 147 anymore.
Cotto can drag up a welter to 147 that's his best option

I happen to agree...and this is why I think lil g and 160 are kind of a joke....in a figurative sense

cotto easily waxed a "top 5" mw.....but he doesn't belong there...and like you said...a lot of the taller/longer 154 guys would make easy work out of him

hes a welter who cant/doesn't want to kill himself to make weight....cottos only real option is to find a welter and do what canelo did with khan.....at maybe 152 or something

He’s a JMW at this point. He can’t make 147 anymore, he was never really a Middleweight. He’s ranked #1 by the WBO and he’s ranked #2 by the WBA at 154.

So his best option for a title fight at 154 would probably be either Smith or Lara. He may have a chance vs Lara though to win that fight he would have to be more motivated than he was vs Canelo.

He could probably do a non title fight vs someone else at 154 but at this point he doesn’t have too many options aside from dragging a welter up to 154 for a non-title fight. To be honest, all joking aside, Amir Khan vs Cotto would actually be an interesting fight at 154 if Khan don’t fight Danny. He’s got to get back in the gym though and really try to re-invent himself before taking a fight. I think he’s doing the right thing taking time off before getting back in there.

Cotto could go the WBO route and beat either Smith @154 or BJS @160. (And collect those belts... easy route)

I doubt he’d fight again at MW. He’s really too small to compete at MW. He was able to beat Martinez because Martinez was injured. He’s never fought an real MW (at 160) and I think fighting JMWs or blown up welters is his best option.

As far as Cotto fighting Smith, after Smith’s last fight Frank Wa rren stated that there has been no correspondence from the Cotto camp thus far. That seemed to indicate that Cotto isn’t pursuing that fight or probably any other fight at the moment.

Unlike Cotto, Canelo has actually made an offer to Smith for a Title Fight in Las Vegas later this year. That’s a big step up for Smith and I am not sure if Smith is keen to fight in Vegas having never fought outside of the U.K. in his entire career. While Smith does seem very interested in fighting either Cotto or Canelo, my guess is he may ask that Cotto or Canelo fight him in the U.K. rather than in Las Vegas.

I don’t know if Cotto or Canelo would consider fighting Smith in the U.K., or whether Liam would agree to a fight either guy in Vegas. How do you see Cotto vs Lara playing out if it were to happen? Who would be the favorite?

That post is appreciated. (I agree)
THX for breaking down the behind the scenes stuff the negotiations or whatever.

Yup, Lara Vs. Cotto would be a very good fight one that I have been wanting to see for a while now. I see Lara not looking as good as before but Miguel is defo on the decline further than Erislandy. I'd have to favor Lara.

Cotto waxed a drained top 5 MW. Geale looked terrible at the weigh in and hydrated 20 plus pounds after the weigh in. Nevertheless, Geale is chinny and would have been stopped in 6 by Cotto despite coming in at 160.

He's too small for anything above 147. He'd be best off fighting Bradley. That'd be a decent fight and they'd make a good buck too.

    I agree.
Timmy is also a more natural LMW than a WW, and as he ages, He's gonna need to keep his legs.

Boiling down, then getting dragged into wars vs smaller, typically faster fighters is never a good thing for an aging fighter.
Case in point, Shane, even with roids

Miguel Cotto was weighing in at 157 when he was fighting at Jr. WW almost 10 years ago

Miguel Cotto is a natural but small Jr. MW more so than he is a natural WW.

Fight Marquez and/or Bradley, then retire.

I wouldn't bank on Roc doing business with PBC any time soon, so that takes most of 154 off the table.

Marquez is demanding a CW, probably 149/151.
Cotto can't get that low healthy.
Better to bring Bradley to 154/155 so both (who are in the neighborhood of 165 fightnight, would have there legs for 12 rds.
