Agreed. The mix of slipping and power punching that worked for him in the first 5/6 rounds will do fine, just needs to keep it up and stay away from the ropes in the later rounds. It's fine but his can is full, but once he's running out of steam he gets smashed up.

Love to see Cotto win a rematch, but this ain't a movie. Margarito by UD 2nd time round I think.

I would prefer seeing any of these two guys duke it out with Paul Williams. It's too bad Arum has a beef with Williams' handlers.

 

Of course he couldn't. Margarito gets himself in semi-crouched position and focus all his work on the inside, keeps a very intense pace in close and slides from this angle to that one just to land left hooks downstairs and uppercuts in between... As a result, Cotto was alaways pretty aware of the danger and looking to keep him away with huge haymakers upstairs. If Cotto would get himself into positions to dig in to the body, Margo's uppercut would get in more easily. This was quite obvious.

 

Good point. I completely agree. A person can discredit a boxer's skills or lack athletic ability and finesse all they want, but if a boxer defeats another top guy like how Margarito beat Cotto, I would certainly have to say Margarito was good enough to use his strenghts to the fullest potential, and hence, was the better fighter. However, lets think of it from the Cotto perspective. If he wants to rematch Margarito, there must be something in him that believes he is the better fighter. Or else, how or why would he want to rematch, especially immediately. Just like Jermaine Taylor wanted to rematch Kelly Pavlik after his knockout loss, he felt he was still the better fighter after the fight, and we can't fault these guys for wanting to avenge their losses. It must be something that is difficult to accept for them. Cotto, in his own mind, had in some ways a sense of invisibility. You could see those traits in the Alfonso Gomez fight where he acted as if he was god fighting a mere human. Now, the other question would be why does he think he is the better fighter... Is he being objective about the matter and does he really believe it or he is simply psycing himself up mentally to give him enough confidence so he can peform or at least attempt to perform at his fullest. I think those questions will be answered on fight night.
