even if he has declined, thats a natural part of boxing.... a fighter rises, has his peak, then is just below his 'best' for a period of time, its often what that fighter does all around, not just in their prime, that defines them as a fighter. If hes not the same cotto as before, hes just going to have to deal with that and adapt....

Alright, O.. But look at the Cotto who's been there all along. The guy you'll see in any highlight. The clunky, sometimes cumbersome looking guy. Cotto looks better now than he did in his first few fights at 147. No, he's not as confident as he was when he was still undefeated - but only just slightly. Physically he's 100% the same fighter, IMO. I understand if you see it differently.

He did look pretty quick against Q, true, E. But in the Mosley fight he was shockingly fast I thought.. I've had nights at the gym like that though. Sometimes my arms get really elastic and lightning fast. :hey

True. Juan Manuel Marquez has been considerably slower than he once was for the last several years at least, and he's had some of the best outcomes of his career over the last several. Hopkins too. Good post.

I think cotto physically is as good as ever... IMO it's his style that has changed a bit, he likes to box more often nowadays and is more technical in his approach. He used to just brawl and steam roll his opponents in the past but as he step up his competition and fought against quality opponents he had mature a lot.

I have always felt Cotto fell in love with his "boxing skills" after the mosley fight and switched his style up a bit. You can make a case that Cotto has never really been outboxed and IMO its a bad gameplan to use against Cotto.

I agree but is it sluggish or is it tenative? I think it is tenative, he isn't as aggressive nor is he sitting down on his punches like he used to.

mosley was cotto's best career performance to date :deal

and the clottey fight he fought defensivly with a bad cut early

so quite hard to judge the two ???

the jennings fight didn't count as was a walk in the park but

look at the speed and timing cotto used against margarito

I think there are good discussions going both ways and that people who know what they're talking about can respectfully disagree about whether or not Cotto has peaked and is now going down hill a bit. BUT I think it's one of those things where I'm not sure and I think time has to pass and we have to see him in a few more fights. Pac may not be a good indicator because of his speed, win, lose or draw. That's the thing, the fighters change and how he looks against them would change regardless of whether he himself is all that different. Tough call.

all manny can do is dart in and out and land fast acurate combo's
cotto knows how to counter speedy small guys !

look at the malignaggi fight ....yes we know paulie is no pac man
but paulie gave cotto problems with speed but cotto slowly grind him
    down and punished him.

ive said it before it all depends on "IF" manny can take cotto's shots
IF he can he stands a massive chance
IF he cant he will have to get on his bike which is not his style !!!!

will he end up with a face like malignaggi ???
