Margarito has got five losses underneath his belt already heading into his big fight with Miguel Cotto. So really Margarito has nothing to lose in this huge bout. BUT

    Here's a question...

What if Miguel Cotto loses? What what will it do to his status, to his possibilty match of a big time fight with Floyd Mayweather which everyone in the Bowing World is dieing to see. Would people still want to see it as much?

I don't think we would. It would be still great to see but would lose that touch, that excitment that two undefeated boxers in their prime give to fans when they step into the ring. But then again their have been many, many, many big fights which fans have loved and wanted to see even with a loss.

So would you still want to see a Mayweather Cotto fight in 2009 if Cotto to Margarito?

If Marg beats him then it pretty much opens up Marg, Cotto, Quintana and Williams all as next opponents for Floyd given that they will have beaten each other in some vain.

For me though, Floyd only needs to fight Cotto while Cotto has the '0' if that is lost then Floyd doesnt need another fight in my opinion

If Cotto loses it will be the Witter/Hatton debate again.

Mayweather will say its not worth fighting him even though it would be a great fight if Cotto doesnt have a '0' on his record

If Cotto loses, Mayweather would have no reason to fight him. No title to win, and a potentially tough fight. If Cotto wins, Floyd probably won't fight him anyway, it seems Money is winding his boxing career down .
If Margarito wins, you can bet your ass Floyd won't fight him either. Mayweather won't even mention Antonio's name for fear the utterance will invoke Margarito's appearence . Floyd doesn't want any fights that may be tough at this point.

I think Mayweather would beat all of them anyway.

Margarito would give him a tough fight, as would Cotto, but Quintana and Williams would be schooled.

So what if he loses ???

Life goes on for him . . . he'll keep fighting and try to come back.

That's the reason why I like both Margarito and Cotto . . . they take risks! I ****i'n hate HYPES . . . I like real warriors. :yep

If Cotto loses then he loses, it sucks for him but the world will move on. He won't be undefeated forever so a loss won't kill him.

He could rematch Mosley/Quintana/Margarito or fight Williams and get his stock back with one win.

Margarito is a very tough fight for anyone. He's a very dangerous puncher with constant aggression, and being even more aggressive than in the Santos or Williams fights made him more dangerous, even if he takes more punches in his all-out non-stop attacks.

So it's definitely a fight to test Cotto on the higest level. However I believe Margarito will bring out the best of Miguel Cotto, even better than the Mosley win or the Gomez domination and win it on points clearly outboxing the wild mexican in an exciting fight.

your a real moron...Every time a fighter any fighter steps in the ring he is taking a risk...With that being said Floyd has taken risk...So what im saying is that your one of those people that thought that Floyd lost to Castillo in the first fight, so you wouldnt call the rematch a RISK??? Fighting DeLahoya at 154 wasnt a risk??? Who about Chico who was hotter then Cotto is now then, not to mention a big favorite.

No what you should say is that you dont like Floyd, it has nothing to do with taking risk...Just as I pointed out in that thread about cherrypicking that all the Floyd haters seemed to have blew right by. The guy has a solid resume, better then any other top 5 p4p fighter when you look at champions fought and p4p guy fought:good

If Miguel loses, he fights the winner of Quintana-Williams, or maybe even Oscar at a catchweight. I don't think Mayweather takes a fight with Margo, and rightfully so - not enough $$$. When you've made 30 mil in back to back fights, you don't take a $10 mil payday.

:thumbsup Thank You, you don't have to be a 'fan' to see that Mayweather's opponents have over 1000 career professional victories.

cotto is more hype than mayweather .mayweather has gone thru the ranks as he was suppose to beat all challengers in his way to the top. Now at the top of boxing not a weight class ,he has to prove to you guys he's warrior by taking on guys who barely deserve a shot .this fight should produce the opponent ,and if cotto loses it ,he's out of the race for floyd. He will fight margo or cotto if he wins . Money won't be an issue cause after dlh floyd will have the clout he's looking for .so no matter who he fights he can check that 15 to 20 every fight

I said that Margarito has nothing to lose and he has more to gain that Cotto does. He's coming into this fight the underdog, the lesser paid, lesser appreciated, less clout, and 5 losses on his resume.

If Cotto loses oh well ... his career isn't going to stop and he'll be back - because no matter what he's still one of the best welterweights in the world and it would only be a matter of time before he has another championship - if he happens to lose.
