Cotto-Margarito: a great fight, but not FOTY in my opinion

    It WAS a great fight, no denying there, but i think for instance a fight like Vasquez-Marquez III was better - more tide turning action and variation of action.

    For Cotto-Margarito, the first 7 rounds were pretty much more of the same, i.e. Cotto landing fantastic shots while Margarito took them all and got in a few as well. Then in the 10th he came on really well with Cotto looking spent, with the finish coming in the 11th.

    The fact that Cotto was THE best welterweight around and Margarito highly regarded as well does make it an excellent fight, and Margarito pulling it off was very dramatic, but in terms of re-watching this fight, i think the first 70% of the fight is not as great as some other fights were.

    Agreed,I have a few fights over this one in my opinion.

    it would of been for me if Cotto won, for favoritism alone....but i think Vasquez-Marquez was well deserved as FOTY, lots of drama + it was the last fight in a epic trilogy

    I would also put Adamek/Cunningham over this fight. That felt like it could have went either way, with Adamek's KDs and higher workrate balanced against Cunningham's moments of offensive brilliance.

    totally agree this is the most overrated fight of recent times,it was a good fight but not a great one and its not FOTY.
