Who do you think is more likely to have come out victorious?

    Cotto shall inevitably stop Margarito.

im picking cotto in this fight but marg does have the better chin so if anyone does go down before the 3rd it would prob be cotto.

If it ends in one or two I would be picking Cotto.

Anyone betting on Margarito should be looking at something around 5, not 1 or 2.

That tends to be my feeling as well. That *IF* it ends in less than 3 (which would seem very unlikely to me), I reckon Margo wins.

Can Margo turn this into an early all-out assault and lure Cotto in?

    For what reason? None?

Margarito is the one who has come in and blown out his opposition within a single round or two a dozen times, consistantly broken up throughout his career. Cotto has done this half as many, and all early in his career. Margarito is more likely to hurt Cotto to the head at any point, Cotto is more likely to hurt Margarito to the body on accumulation - if at all.

Why in the world would you say that Cotto would be more likely to do damage to Margarito in 1 or 2, and Margarito something around 5?

I don't see this fight ending under three rounds.. The logical choice would be Margarito, but I just don't see him winning.. I will say Margo's best chance is early in the fight where Cotto would still be trying to figure him out and get settled, but Margo is a slow starter at times too..

Cotto is more mobile, by far the superior composite puncher and as such is likely to find himself in a dominant position early doors. Your surmise of Margarito as a fast starter is fair, but this won't manifest itself this weekend - because quality is the thing.

If there is a very early KO, it is more likely to be because Margarito has been overwhelemed.

I think the inflection point in this fight comes when Margarito starts to fight back. After around 5 rounds - could be six or seven or four, but 5 feels about right to me - Cotto will have decided that he can't quite overwhelm Margarito without putting it all on the line - and what's the point when he is dominating the fight? Margarito, meanwhile, will look for that extra surge that comes of realising he is a warrior and behind on the cards. At this point Cotto will have to decide whether he is to go to war, or box. If he choses to go to war this is a very dangerous time for him.

true, but with the better chin and possibly the heavier punch... and being the bigger guy, and with my inability to see cotto hurting margarito without an accumilation of punches towards the later rounds... while i can see margarito hurting cotto with one punch, makes me lean towards margarito early if it were to play out that it was an early fight.
