He was pawing on reflex with his left. The fact that those were such weak tapping moves indicates very clearly that Cotto was ROCKED and not fully aware of his senses at that point. He came to a few beats later when he started throwing to actually try and get Zab off of him. There is no rule regarding the body's reflexes and reactions after it has been traumatized.
