I say that because Corrales, like Margarito was the taller man in the fight and was more of a brawler than a boxer. Freitas, like Cotto was a better boxer and both were undefeated at the time. Both Cotto and Freitas got off to fast starts against there opponents before fading in the mid rounds and ultimately losing in the later rounds. Not including the ending of course. Thoughts?
Excellent comparison as far as the flow to both fights went, with one man being forced to spend too much of himself early. Of course the fighters themselves are extremely different. Margarito is more intelligent brawler where Corrales was a cagey boxer/ counterpuncher. Circling is also much more of a plan B for Cotto while it was plan A for Popo. But the similarities definitely crossed my mind as well.
Now THIS is why I luv this site and forum. Cant get analysis like this even from lederman. Unfortunately I never saw Corrales-Freitas (dont know how i missed it) & only became a chico fan after the greatest fight of the decade. I was comparing this fight to the Marg -Williams fight in how Williams also dominated early then sucumbed to the pressure of Marg in the mid to late rounds. Only thing is Williams looked no where as spent as Cotto did tonight in winning those early rounds and had enough left to throw over a 100 punches in the final 2 rounds. Some folks are ole skool 15 rd fighters in their mentality and stamina. Both Marg & Williams (not withstanding the Quintana loss) along with Vasquez & Marquez are there are very few others.

Aw man, you've GOT to see Corrales - Freitas (although it sounds like you might have seen a replay?). I give the Brazilian fans credit, they brought major ruckus to the venue on that evening. Drums, chants, cow bells, you name it. Once Corrales closed the distance though, he was just too strong and too accurate. Cotto also gassed tonight in a way Freitas didn't, partly because Margo isn't the sharp puncher Corrales was, and partly because Freitas quit while Cotto really gave it everything his body could muster. Definitely get ahold of Corrales - Freitas if you haven't seen it. Not the best fight you'll ever see, but in true Chico fashion, a great piece of drama.
