This fight should tell us exactly how many hardcore boxing fans are left in this country. Anyone that really cares about the sport will be buying and watching this fight, so the PPV numbers should tell us how much of the base is left. These two guys aren't stars outside of the ring, and don't have large followings of otherwise casual boxing fans, so the people watching this should be real fans of the sport.

Personally, I'm hoping they can hit 400k buys, but the ads I've seen on TV have not done this fight justice. Instead of using the usual boxing promo language of "warriors", "true champion" and "battle", they should have tried to use some specific facts about the fighters. For example, I'm sure casual people would have been intruiged by a fighter who through 1600 punches in a fight and has never been knocked out (Margo). Or an undefeated PuertoRican champion with an excellent KO ratio, who has beaten some of the biggest names in boxing.

    Only 10 hours to go...

The buys will tell us who's more marketable ... and rather Cotto can produce big fights.

Box fan seem to forget that boxing is competing with so many other television shows and sport event on the same time slot , and Arum has never done anything to promote ether of these fighter or the fight to the general public , I mean absolutely nothing or little to nothing .
Its like he's afraid to promote his fighters , in fear of they may leave him if they get too big.

I can count on one hand how many commercial Iv seen of this fight on television ,if not for the internet and boxing web sites Im pretty sure I would have never known about this fight.

And how many stupid people there are that would rather watch Floyd "The Kenyan Marathon Runner" Mayweather than a real fight.

ESPN has been giving it a decent amount of coverage. Certainly more coverage than they've given to the last few UFC events. They had an article on the fight headlining the ESPN.com homepage, Cotto on The Hot List Wednesday, talked with Dan Rafael on First Take, aired the weigh-in live on ESPNEWS, and have had segments on Sportscenter. And they're supposed to have more segments on the fight throughout the day. I haven't even seen them mention the Elite XC show on CBS tonight.

    ESPN deserves some props.

Hardcore boxing fans won't buy it :D They will watch it free online on a shitty stream and then enjoy the free replay a week after.

I think the fact that neither Cotto or Margo are American is going to hurt the PPV buys in the USA.

i really dont see this fight doing over 450k.... if it does i will be extremely happy...

I hate to be the bringer of bad news... but Boxing is fading... and theres only a few ways to bring it back as a respected and saluted position, and not many of them are being done.

Mark my words... this fight will not do more then 500k....
between two of the best welterweights in the world, with welterweight being one of the top divisions in all of boxing.... a p4p fighter against his clear number 2, an exciting matchup.... ect, ect.

sad times if this doesnt hit expectations.
