tim bradley as lineal middleweight champ would be even a bigger joke than cotto. anyone buys that fight should be banned from boxing forever.

350k is not terrible, objectively speaking. Not super but.. honestly I was thinking it might be as low as 300k or even below.

As for Bradley... thats a big W T F right there. Though I doubt it happens.. Arum probably just tossing out his name to keep leverage with whomever they try to make fight with for real. Its a lot easier to keep the B-side asking price down if you have the appearance of having another option lined up, Arum does that with almost every big promotion.

How many times does the name initially mentioned by Arum to get a fight actually end up getting the fight? Expect Andrade to move up if its in-house, or a MW WBC mandatory.

That's about 50K-75K less than I thought it would be.

The PPV landscape seems to be down for the last few events. The UFC numbers are down too and they may have diluted the value of PPVs over the years, hurting boxing in the process.

It certainly doesn't help that PPVs are more expensive than ever. $60 for this particular event is a bit too much.

    Agreed.

That's the only fight that can ignite interest in boxing again. Sadly, one guy cares too much about his health.

If they don't fight, their next PPV fight will see a huge drop.

I think the term bomb should be reserved for a situation where the event did not make money, pretty sure a solid profit was easily made with those numbers...don't forget a solid live gate also.

    350k x 60$ = 21 million

21 million x 0.45 (Cable providers and HBO take their cuts) = 9,450,000

    Cotto's Purse = 3 million but guaranteed 7 million
Martinez = 1.5 million plus PPV upside (if any lol)
Rest of card purses = about 320,000

Total expenses (not including promoting, arena fees etc) = 8,820,000

    9,450,000-8,820,000 = 630,000

Plus live gate (I don't know the amount but i'm gonna assume say 3 million).

Total Revenue say about 4 million minus total expenses say 2 million, Top Rank makes a 2 million profit.

Not bad imo but who knows, i assumed a lot.

Arum's the last person who should be whining about too many PPVs or reserving them only for the biggest fights when he was one of the primary people responsible for boxing's march to that model to the detriment of the sport's popularity in the US.

This doesn't even get into the fact that he's desperately once again trying to set it up in China even though the sport's hardly established there and he'd once again risk cutting off a large portion of the population in a market he's supposedly trying to nurture.

Thats actually a pretty accurate ballpark. LDB Ent gets some of that as well, and Cotto Promotion. So everyone made.. a little bit of money. It was a successful promotion, but not a smashing success.

good. So did Mayweather/Maidana. Time to start putting fights on HBO. PPV is not for every terrible fight.

Maybe the fans are starting to respond... Mayweathers and PAC fight bombed by their standards too. The only voice us fans have is through our wallets. I refuse to buy any ppvs until the fights that should be made are made

Yeah, I've been a fan for about 14 years and never bought a pay per view. You can watch fights on replays or online a few weeks later and keep up with what's going on reading the newspapers, if they don't show it on NBC, ESPN, HBO, or Showtime. Pay per view is just for people who can't hold their wad and be patient.

I stopped buying after Hopkins flopped against Dawson in two rounds.
