Why are people anti American for saying Froch vs Groves is bigger? Martinez and Cotto aren't even American.

Did you create this thread just so you can spout some of your anti British bull****?

I would say Froch vs Groves 2 is slightly more important.

It's the bona fide number two super middle against the guy that so nearly took his titles from him last time out, so it's a high-calibre fight. They have history, the first fight ended in controversy, so there's a real rivalry and some 'unfinished business'. They are both from the same country, so there's national pride at stake.

I'm really excited by Martinez-Cotto too, but I think it will be one-sided assuming Martinez' body does not betray him. Cotto has never fought at middleweight, so although he's a big star, and one of my favourite fighters, this is not a fight between two proven middleweights. I see it more as a money-spinning defence for a champion.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter, does it? Both of these fights are intriguing and will no doubt be very exciting.

Martinez-Cotto is a meeting between an inactive cripple that lost his last fight and a stumpy, faded gatekeeper who's incapable of beating any good, fresh fighters anymore (and hasn't since he edged past Clottey.)

In terms of names in world boxing and historical status, Martinez and Cotto are more famous, however both are past their best fighting for a payday in what should really be a good fight. Froch -Groves 2 has huge interest all as a result of the their first classic encounter. The young skilful underdog boxed a masterclass against the hardened warrior who lost the majority of rounds before he weathered the storm in brutal circumstances. When Froch turned it on in the 9th many feel the referee drew a close to the contest far too early which cannot be argued against a young lion fighting for a world title. A rematch just had to happen and all of British fight fans will be watching. Froch -Groves II is more important than Cotto -Martinez period.

    Not even close.

Martinez is a paper champion who has been ducking Golovkin for almost 2 years now. Cotto is not even a contender at MW.

Carl Froch is the n.2 SMW in the world, and Groves is one of the top 10 contenders in that division.

An argument can be made that Froch is the n.1 SMW, but it doesn't need to be made in order to prove that this fight is much bigger than Cotto-Martinez, which is almost meaningless in boxing history.

why is being #2 at 168, better than being #1 at middleweight? no way!168 isn't even a real division.. of course the catchweight messes things up in Cotto vs Martinez, but day before weigh in makes it a legit middleweight fight. Cotto and Martinez are the better fighters. However, its a domestic level dustup for the English, so for them its Leonard v Hearns.

Martinez is the pound for pound best fighter of the 4 in question, but that's not what this is about.

martinez vs. cotto = a mismatch

cotto was a very good jr. welter

    a decent welter

    an average jr. middle...

    see the trend????

he's most likely going to make a 'poor middleweight'....

so a bad middleweight vs. the middleweight king....

smh.... @ people thinking that's an 'important' or even a 'good' fight....

you morons don't know ish about boxing.

    pros:

    - cotto-martinez is much, much bigger on a world stage, as they are both superstars.
    - the froch-groves fight is more relevant, because it could be the emergence of a rising star at 168.

    cons:

    - cotto-martinez could be viewed as two men in very much the twilight of their career having one last brawl.
    - froch-groves could be seen as nothing more than a domestic punch up, given neither of them are especially elite (froch definitely isn't, but groves is still quite young).

    conclusion: i don't give a **** - i'm looking forward to both of them :-D

it's a historical fight if cotto wins. he'll be the first puerto rican to win 4 titles in 4 divisions.

really doesn't matter who wins between groves and froch. they're both 2nd best to ward.

of course you can say the same about martinez/cotto with golovkin...but golovkin really hasn't fought anyone on martinez or cotto's level and martinez is the lineal champion.

i think it's clear that cotto/martinez is the more significant fight.
