Cotto may not be the same, but here's something that's being ignored...

Margarito took an insane amount of punishment also to gain his victory, it was really bad guys, a few times some flush landed 4-5 shot combinations, which showed an amazing display of chin and will to walk through it.. but could also damage him in the long run just like the beating Cotto recieved may have taken much out of him.

A lot of times after give and take battle's where both guys take a beating, neither are exactly the same again, as if their peak was taken in the bout, but people always assume that the loser is worse off and thats not necessarily true. A prime example of this is the Vasquez-Marquez trilogy, Vasquez won the trilogy, but he took much more vicious punishment in all 3 fights because Marquez hits harder and Vasquez takes a shot much better than Marquez, look at Vasquez's face after the 2nd and 3rd fights, it's torn to pieces because he's eaten worse punishment from a better puncher(even though he could take it), where as Marquez would lose some rounds by getting stunned even though he landed the far more damaging blows in higher amount in the round.

So, if anybody's going to be finished off from that trilogy, I think it would be Vasquez over Marquez just on amount of damage taken.

I'm not saying that Marg took that kind of damage, but he certainly ate much harder shots during the bout to the head than Cotto did and it doesn't appear so because he can eat it 3 to 4 times better than Cotto can. But if you guys think he wasn't in the hospital after that and having double vision and what not, think again, a repeat performance like this may not come.

If there is a chance that Cotto will not be the same, there is also a chance that this was Marg's peak performance and it'll be a decline from here on out also, because he also took a vicious beating from a very damaging puncher.

    Thoughts?

Yeah, he's fine. Cotto might be damaged mentally from this fight although.

Some guys can take it and not develop any evident brain damage, this is true.

IMO Margarito was on the slide before this fight ever happened. Larry Merchant also talked about it during Cintron II. He commented regarding "all the miles Margarito has on him." If you match footage of Margarito versus Cotto against Margarito versus opponents just a year or two+ ago Antonio looks much slower, older, and more lethargic overall. Margarito is in decline as far as I'm concerned, possibly already on his way to being shot. It's pretty impressive that he was still able to stop Cotto in that condition. It says alot.

I defo can relate to your Marquez/Vasquez theory, make's alot of sense.
(neither will ever be the same again)

The Margarito/Cotto fight although I'll admit Tony took some flush shot's...
I wouldn't say Cotto really sat down on any of them and threw with all he could.
He was catching Tony with angles and Great potshot's, but a true Cotto shot would have done alot more damage to Margarito.

Cotto was fighting on the move, which takes away some steam from his punch.
some of his landed hook's and right's had Jab like power to them at most.
Then again I was not taking them blow's...lol

Both guys took a beating in this fight. An immediate rematch would not be good for either fighter.

Come on. The reason he looked slower and older against cotto was because he was in with a world-class boxer. No different than Williams.

Off Subject: Hey man lately I've been watching alot of footage of Solis and he might become the 2nd best body puncher in the game behind Miguel Cotto, Im a new fan of Solis now.

You ****ing clown. How do you like them apples?

As for the OP, no I don't think so. Margarito is just one of those guys who won't break down until his body breaks down. As long as he keeps himself in fantastic shape he should have another 4 years or so before he starts slipping.

Keep in mind too please that the Santos and Williams fights were very, very close. Nobody has dominated Margarito in a very long time. He's just that good. We extend the same sort of respect to guys like DLH or Hopkins who have close calls, so we should do the same for Margarito.

LOL, mobility, handspeed, and reaction time are what's going to be the indicators. Margarito looked slow as **** against Cintron as well, dude. The boxing ability of the opponent doesn't mean squat. Do yourself a favor and watch Margarito/Lujan or Margarito/Clottey and then watch Margarito/Cotto, back to back. Do some research, and most of all think about what you're saying before you say it.
